Ok I've been getting way too much pussy lately (she's a motorcycle rider) to check the odd threads, but I still sneak in to see the creme de la creme, this made me laugh, rant of the day, etc. Face it motorcycle season is over for most of us. Do we just go dormant until spring? Snow tonight. She's now 180 miles away until Friday. Gotta drink a beer and catch up, love this open forum!
Am I missing something here? I thought we were big tough hairy (even if balding) bikers who were shocked by nothing (except the price of spares) and yet folks spit the dummy clear across the room over things that my granny wouldn't even twitch at and she was a posh and sophisticated sort! What is the world coming to? Bikers never used to take offence at such trifling things and yet everywhere I look now bikers seem to have turned into a bunch of flouncing Jessie's who delight in being offended at the drop of a lace trimmed hanky. That shit is supposed to be for the types who don't have the nuts to ride bikes! I have found much about bikes on here and asked many questions in my information gathering in my field of interest (Hinckley built Bonnie's and Sprints) and have received loads of advice, tips and spare parts at very good prices so there is plenty bike related stuff here. Of course folks do have to ask questions or offer up wisdom in order to keep that area alive. I have been and am a member of many other forums and, compared to this one they are run like Dictatorships where no-one is allowed to criticise, dispute or quite frankly, act like a bloody grown-up and tackle difficult and tricky 'outside world' topics and you always hear the "I come to this forum to discuss X so how dare anyone have the temerity to discuss 'Y' because 'Y' doesn't belong in a forum about 'X' and it offends me that people try to be 'social' on a site specifically designed to be about 'X' for people who are solely and utterly obsessed about 'X'." It's like every forum is populated by people with a ten year old internal policeman whose rules are purely Black and White and they can't cope with anything that is in the grey! The whole world seems to be controlled by Aspergers these days!
I agree, but there is discussing and taking on board others views which you may agree or disagree with works for me. It breaks down when folk get confrontational and make personal attacks on others when it starts to unravel ....
I'm saddened by what seems to me to be getting personal comments. Lads let's just do what we do best. Enjoy a bit of banter, ride our bikes and try and get on . This forum has seen years of great friendships being made and meets . Let's not throw that away . Life is to short.

I don’t believe feeling sorry for anybody is required. But I am concerned like many other forum members on the recent spats,on the forum and would like to see this being wound up, with normal service returning ...

Just one post asking this? You have admin rights, make it a notice that will be seen by all, that the reader has to close to remove it. That way all will see it, including the people who are ignoring this thread because its "contentious". Set a closing date so any candidates know when they have to apply by. Maybe a minimum post count for applicants would be an idea? Sorry if I step on any toes stating the above, but I think it's the fairest way to commence.
What qualifications do a Forum moderator need to have and who moderates the moderators? Not interested myself but I am interested to know whether moderators are monitored to ensure that they are fair and even handed and don't take sides.
Mods take sides, it's inevitable, same as the clicky members who all jump on someone as a unit to protect their own. A mod has to be honest, and tow the line when it comes to putting the forum first.
Who is actually 'God' here Jez? I actually find it refreshing here because, on other forums where I am member the forum owners are so terrified of upsetting someone and having the lawyers set upon them that they and their appointed mods don't allow anyone to use language anything above kindergarten levels and subjects like religion, politics, race, nationality and, quite frankly anything 'grown up' isn't allowed. On one forum I was actually given a warning because I made a joke that cast Scotsmen as miserly and another joke about Scots being tough. Being a Scotsman myself and, with the jokes being pretty tame by anyone's standards I thought it was ridiculous on a forum that wasn't for age ten and under. My stepson is Autistic and has very strict rules in his personal world some of which are: Swearing bad, crime and punishment bad, politics bad, news of unhappy events in the world bad, anyone who doesn't think everyone is wonderful no matter what they do is bad. I get the feeling sometimes that the internet and possibly the world is coming to be run by people like my stepson who can't tolerate anyone who might show them that their 'ideal world' is not possible in the real one.
I mostly lurk, because I am from Merica... #1, i ask that previous posters on this thread do not take this as a personal attack. i am speaking in broad scope and not directing this at anyone in particular. I came here for info when I bought my first triumph, but I stayed for the drama. I don't think healthy debate or opposing views is a problem. In general, I think the people who are so offended by opposing opinions that they need to escape are the biggest problem in modern society; and those who are offended by everyone and everything are ruining this lovely world that I call home. Fuck your safe spaces, and fuck you. Not everyone will see things your way, so shut up and get used to it. If you can't handle opposing views and everything offends you, the rest of the world isn't the problem, you are. Not picking a side here. Just wishing that people would stop insisting that the world needs to be a safe space, contrary opinions need to be stifled, and everyone should be allowed to live in a world that doesn't offend them. Life is tough, the world is a hard place to live in, get used to it or go huddle in a dark corner somewhere and suck your thumb until you die of starvation or old age.
