    Hi there,

I have just bought a 2001 Triumph sprint St 955i. With genuine triump side boxes already fitted. But i would like to find out more about the bike and what small improvements i can make to help.

So i have a few questions for the forum..

    1) i would still like to fit a top box and top box rack. Where is the best place to get the same as my triumph side boxes.
    2) Is there a steering damper kit for them?
I am used to riding with a damper now. But have reverted back to a bike with out one!
    3) which heated grips suit the triumph the best?
    4) I am looking to do a bit of touring with the bike. Fully loaded with a passenger. Will the rear shock be able to take it? Or should i replace with an all singing all dancing new one with pre-load adjuster?
    5) if touring fully loaded up. Will i still have ground clearance if i leave the centre stand on?

I am coming from sports bikes with dampers and kinda like the feel of them.
Also worried about so much weight over the back if fully loaded.

in truth you'll have to run the bike round and see... the rear spring is adjustable both for dampening and rebound.... cant comment on steering damper (never had one) or rack until i see what you have on the back...there is a Givi plate for the Triumph rack available...other top boxes have their own plates that bolt on...

heated grips..i've found the oxford ones work the best....but the grossly over priced Triumph ones should plug straight in - you'll have to check on that though

been using my RS (virtually the same as the ST) since 2009 one up, two up and on runs right down the country Durham to Dover etc the main stand has never grounded

the simple answer though is wait for the better weather and ride the bike round and set it up as feels most suitable for you...the sprints are a good all round soild built bike

You're very welcome. Sprint Mfg. might also be able to help with advice on the rear shock. Trevor is very helpful and very knowledgeable.

There's plenty of knowledgeable and experienced Triumph people on here and I've no doubt you'll get a LOT more useful recommendations. Enjoy that Sprint.

very pretty...nice example of an ST...if you see the little hole on the bend of the frame - thats to adjust the rear suspension...an 8mm socket that you have to pass the extension bar through the hole then attach the socket to engage on the slottted bolt of the suspension...can be done with a screwdriver but the socket is a better way...... you probably know all this already... apologies

Ah, thank you Chris. I actually never knew that. Great info. I only got it at the start of the week. Then put it in the garage and came to work.

Stupid question. But are Triumph alarms really sensitive. I had to switch the ignition on to clean the chain. As it kept just turning itself back on again in a very short time period? Or am i pressing th wrong button?

sorry don't know that one..i don't have a lot of faith in alrms...the bike can be shouting its head off and still be muscled in the back of a van (i had my bonneville stolen i belive in this way back in 2009) .....I tend to go for alarmed disc lock and a bloody big chain preferably around something

Welcome mate. I'm up in Kintore so not a million miles away although I have a 1050 so don't know too much about the 955 STs

You might want to look at SW Motech for a rear rack. I have one on mine with a Givi adapter plate and a standard Givi box. Alternatively you may get lucky on ebay for a genuine to box and mount

The rear shock might be up to the job but with miles, it'll wear out so you could look at a Nitron replacement. I've heard good things about them and they customise to your weight requirements

Cheers Macduff. I shall look into that. I wasn't sure if Nitron or Maxton were what to go for. There is also an Ohlins rear shock on ebay just now.
I would like something with a remote pre-load adjuster for easy access.
