Own a 2016 Street Twin and mine suffers from the common complaint. It won't shift down. If you ride it for a while it starts working but for me it's been getting worse, to the point I don't feel comfortable riding anymore. It used to take about a minute to start working and only happened if it went unused for a week. Now it happens always and doesn't repair as fast with use. I had to wait a month but somone is willing to look at it. They are a former Triumph dealer but really the only person who fixes Triumph in my area. I'm not sure if Triumph ever acknowledged this was an issue and has a recall replacement making it worth perhaps a very distant trip for a recall repair. It's a great bike but the gearbox problem is awful because it's a real safety issue.
Well, there are still known issues with the Speed Twin shift linkage coming apart every once in a while. I’m not sure if the T120 has had similar problems. Might be worth asking the shop to go over it before you ride off into the sunset. Beautiful bike, BTW. Congrats
No way. I just had my 2018 T120 bought new in 2019 gearshift shaft replaced under warranty at 1500 miles (2 months to repair by the dealer). I rode another 2500 miles and it wont downshift AGAIN. I will have it towed to the dealer AGAIN to be repaired. Best riding bike if it runs. I’m going to have it repaired and dump it. Get a Harley or something that works. Sorry! I loved this bike but forget this for being reliable.
There are other posts on here about the issue including one showing a technical bulletin from triumph, that shows the range of frame numbers effected. Stuart Filingham has a YouTube channel and has two posts about the issue. He was contacted by Triumph who said they wanted to work on a solution and further video about the problem. Triumph have not got back to him as promised. https://youtu.be/ZfUgA6oAfVk
I contacted Triumph with my 2016 Thruxton 1200 frame and engine number and they have assured me that my bike is not affected, not sure I believe them as bikes built before and after mine have failed, but if it ever goes I guess I’ll just fix it
I saw the video and Triumph offered to look at his bike and he has refused. In my opinion he takes any opportunity to slag off Triumph and big up Royal Enfield. Controversy equals YouTube views.
