This may have been done to death but has anyone used a product on their black engine cases that stays black, the only posts I’ve seen seem to recommend light oils or silicone sprays that will make the cases look black for a limited time but soon evaporate, is there anything that is actually black that anyone has used successfully, thanks Mark.
Thanks, it’s described as a plastic trim restorer, have you successfully used this on black engine cases?,( I can’t see any mention of it being heat resistant in the manufacturers description).
Black stove paint? Just an idea, never used on a bike engine, but works very well on a wood burner! Tidies up a scabby stove like magic and lasts through heat, usually matt though.
If you want to keep the engine in its current condition, I’d recommend a ceramic coating. There are several on the market which are self application, but for something that lasts 1-3 yrs, then I would go for something like Kenalon which must be done by a pro auto detailing specialist. I had my 3 series done As soon as it can form the dealership several yrs ago, and it came out looking amazing. Ive booked my TTR in to have it done later this year.

Thanks for the replies. The engine already has staining on the Matt black cases, probably from where previous owners have used alkaline cleaners such as Mucc off, also there’s staining near the polished covers where the have got white alloy polish on the black, tried getting it off with a brush and detergent but it’s ground in, its only faint but I’d like to get them back to jet black, think I’ll try some black stove product in an inconspicuous place on the casing and see how that fairs before using it on the more visible parts.
Try using armour all , I used it on my 1994 Trident. It lasted several months between heavy applications and it would repel dirt ! You only had to wait till the engine was cool enough to touch and a light wash or hosing was sufficient to get it 90% clean , spick & span looking ! Had the bike six plus years and 160,000 km ... I've seen pictures of the bike on face book from the current owner , now nearing 300,000 km and still looking good ! New owner (2nd) also armour all 's regularly !
