Hi folks Just joined and thought I'd share my recent project for my 2009 ST. Have always been disappointed with the headlights after my VFR. Have tried HIDs but the projector design is just so poor. Finally decided on updating to the GT setup and found a slightly damaged nosecone, headlight and mint screen on Ebay. Set about the plastic repairs myself which weren't too hard. Bought the paint from RS bike paints but had the final finishing done by a pro locally. All in, a pretty easy job and worth the improved lighting. I'll probably sell the existing fairing and headlight so it should work out pretty cheap All you need is a fairing, headlight with harness and screen. Very likely you'll need paint unless you're lucky to get an undamaged fairing that matches yours. Everything else is the same so it's basically plug and play. Have only included before and after shots as I seem to have deleted some of the progress pics
I have a GT and not that impressed with the headlights - there is only one mainbeam. I have changed the sidelights to more powerful LED ones, which helps slightly. I have looked at the new MOT rules and looks like LED conversion is ok, but not an HID. Has anyone had experience of LED conversion?
You should try riding an ST with the projector headlights. They are awful. Main beam is just a pencil thin spot that does nothing. I ended up adjusting it down and running with all three on all the time. Neither is as good as my 2001 VFR and the VTEC is meant to be even better. It's one area that Triumph didn't seem to bother with This conversion wasn't going to get the best lights but it is a decent improvement and looks sharper IMO
I finally get it. You have put a VFR headlight in to the Triumph nose cone. Great work, very cunning.
If anyone's interested in doing this, there's a late model ST/GT headlight on ebay and a couple of slightly damaged GT nosecones that could easily be repaired
