Hi Peeps, anyone have a Street Scrambler and use a ground anchor with chain & lock? Where do you put the chain on the bike to secure it? I've been searching around the whole bike and can't find anywhere convenient to stick it through. Got it jammed a couple of times when I tried the normal places, this is a tightly packed bike! TiA
On my standard Bonneville I thread the chain through the mounting for the rear foot peg, might work on the scambler too?
Unfortunately on the Scrambler it's quite pointless, because the pegs are removable and only held on with two allen-head bolts.
Yeah, I'm doing the back wheel - only choice, really. I've always been reluctant to use the wheels, but I suppose in this case, with it chained to my workshop floor and a big dog in the garden, it's pretty safe
Not much room on the chain side, but there is a triangle of frame in front of the rear foot peg on the other side of the bike like in MadMrB's picture of the Bonneville.
Call me ignorant, but is the theft of bikes from garages a common thing? You chain the bikes down in your own homes?
Over here mate some scrotes will steal anything from anywhere, and yes theft of bikes from garages is not uncommon. Insurance companies will give discounts (very small) if you use security devices with certain approvals.
Well unfortunately as I said earlier, the rear peg frames can be removed in a matter of seconds on the street scrambler, so using them for the chain is just not an option. To Hotdish - the main reason I do this, even though I live in a very low vehicle-crime rate area (which doesn't mean there aren't a number of dodgy types living around here), is the insurance will refuse to pay anything at all if the bike gets stolen and isn't properly secured with a ground anchor at all times that it isn't being prepared for a journey. I even had to drill two holes in the concrete path round the back of my house to fit the ground anchor while we were building a new garage.
Having had a look at mine, while the left side is hard to chain, there's a good gap on the right side above the drive train to get a chain through the frame.
Have you thought about the pins that go through the rear axle? https://securityforbikes.com/anti-pinch-pin.php Not used one or even seen one so cant offer anything like an informed opinion.
That was the first bit I tried - and the chain will lead through it, but trying to get it further through the other bits and out underneath just got it jammed and I had a hell of a job getting it back out. I'll have to do some research on the pin thing.
