Speed Triple 2012 Hesitation Between About 5 And 15% Throttle

    Hi all

I've not long bought a 2012 Speed Triple ABS (not the R version with Ohlins etc) and it has a pronounced hesitation between about 5 and 15% throttle openings. If you cruise along at 5% throttle and roll on slowly nothing happens until you get to about 10 - 15% throttle when it picks up nice and cleanly. This happens in all gears at all revs but is most noticeable before the engine is up to temp and at around 4k RPM which of course just happens to be where you spend most time accelerating from.

I've got dealertool and tune ECU. It came with a stubby SP Engineering can fitted (the hesitation was present with this setup) but I've since swapped that for the standard twin underseat pipes. I've reflashed the ECU trying both the STD map (20656) and also tried the Arrow maps (20521 and 20524) which made no difference to the fault. I've reset the adaptations and the TPS in tuneecu but the fault remains.

Anyone come across anything like this before? Its almost feels like there is a fault with the TPS.

    Thanks in advance.

Does sound like TPS issue, Tuneecu does display throttle in 0-100%. So rolling the throttle while observing that readout might point you in the right direction?
Unfortunately it's possible the ecu talking to Tuneecu might not be fast enough to show a smooth response? Never checked that out myself.

I have similar on my old Tiger 955i.
Triumph dealer reckons it's wear on the throttle linkage that's to blame.
I've learnt to live with it and it goes once the engine warms up.

    Thanks for the replies.

Col_C you are right TuneECU can't get the info quick enough from the ecu to show a smooth output from the TPS, I did try that hoping I might see something.

Alatamoc that might make sense in this case too, the bike has done about 44000 miles so has had a fair bit of use.

I think I'll look for a set of throttle bodies and see if that cures it.

Update in case someone else searches on this problem.

I managed to pick up a used set of throttle bodies with a TPS attached and swapped out the lot. I could have just swapped the TPS to see if that fixed it but have to admit I was being lazy. Reset the adaptations and did the 12 minute idle reset procedure.

Took it for a ride and initially I thought it was worse! After the engine had warmed up though the problem had disappeared. On the next ride I started from cold and it was perfect all the way through.

Problem is solved, thanks for the pointers.

    Glad you've got it sorted!
It always seems to take a ride or two for the ECU to "learn" your engine, it's my understanding that the reset clears the ecu data back to factory and therefore has to then re-learn your engine (and to some extent your riding style).
