Welcome. Not been here long myself but the natives seem quite friendly.

How long since the brake fluid was changed? That would probably be your first job to improve the feel.

A very warm from a fellow newbie. My previous reply was spongiform so removed it.

    Thank you everyone

The brake fluid is lovely and clean, so I wouldn't have thought it was that old. I read somewhere the front master cylinder can be replaced with a daytona 675 one? The rear with an older zx6/7/9r? And upgrading all pads

Hi Scott and Welcome to the Forum

Don't know what your mechanical skills are like but bleeding the brakes will most like sort out the spongy feeling you talk about, while you're at it change the fluid for new. :)

    Welcome Scott.
You’re right about the brakes, they are a little soft at the front compared with modern brakes. I don’t mind it too much on mine but you can improve them with a 5/8in master cylinder found on a lot of jap bikes (it’s a 14mm on the Triumph)
On mine I just bled them with new Dot 4 and changed the pads for Brembo fast road ones and they’re good now, although there is still quite a bit of lever travel.
I did the same for my rear brake and although it’s not great I don’t tend to use it much so haven’t bothered. I believe the ZXR rear Brembo calliper is a straight swap to improve it.
Post a pic of your bike too when you can, we do like piccies :)

I used to have a daytona 675, but had to get rid of it as it was killing my back etc. This one is alot bigger and seems to fit me better, it's a nice bike, has a few things that need doing but for a 21 year old bike it's ok. Anything that needs doing can wait till winter

Hi Scott and welcome in :) Great looking bike!

Unless you are absolutely sure it has already been done, I would give the bike a basic service; replace all fluids, oil change, new filters, new plugs, clean calipers and replace pads. Perhaps consider new braided brake lines if it doesn't already have braided lines
