F74F072F-BDE5-4DF0-BF16-121514206441.png i am currently running knobbly tyres on my customised street cup. It has a tracker style so the knobbly tyres really suit the look however I am after a more road based tyre that still has a got an off road look. Has any body got any experience of Avon trail rider tyres as they look like what I am after. Thanks in advance for any comments. Cheers.

They'd be an interesting choice for sure. I use Storm 3D X-M on my Street Twin and am more than happy with their performance over the more expensive and less capable stock Pirelli Phantoms.

Are you running the original wheels? I’d like to see pic of what you’ve done, as I have a Street Cup as well. I am going to need tires soon and am looking at the Conti Road Attack 3.

Yeah, had these very briefly on a Tiger 800 - the shop fitted them instead of the Distanzias I requested! (I only have Avon tyres fitted on my British bikes!!)

The Trail Riders seem to have a much more "rounded" profile than the Distanzias so they felt as if they were more progressive when leaning in, rather than getting a sharp "tip in" type feeling from tyres with a more triangular profile. Don't know if I've explained that well and it was only a brief experience (and in the dry only) as I sold the bike with fewer than 50 miles on the tyres.

I've only ever once had an 'uncomfortable' feeling from any Avon tyres I've had fitted and that was with a a pair of Azarros (I think) on my '92 900 Trident. The front just felt all wrong and a bit vague. I contacted Avon and they made a suggestion to change to a different front (can't remember which, but a less "sporty" type) which they then supplied in exchange and which improved things massively.

My 2 penn'orth is that Avon are Britain's last remainng tyre maker (AFAIK - and, yes, I know they're owned by the American company Cooper) and are STILL capable of making tyres which, for me personally and my abilities, are the equal of anything else I've used from the rest of the world. I'll be putting Storm 3D-XM Ultras on my Street Triple soon, and, if they do the same tyre in compatible sizes for the 95 Speedie, I'll be putting a pair on that, too!

I'd have thought that, if you're running knobllies now, you'll certainly get as much - and likely more - grip out of the Trail Riders and, though they won't have quite the same aggressive looks, they'll certainly be in keeping.

Hope that, whatever you get, suits.

    Regards,

    Adie

As per the above ..... Avon are very helpful when contacted over the phone. I had a queery about tyre fitment for my '02 Daytona Centennial a good few years back and the guy I spoke to in their technical/customer services dept (or whatever it was!) was both helpful and knowledgeable. I already had Storms on my Trident and he suggested a Storm 2 rear with a Viper front which worked very well.
    Top company, top product.:)

    Tyre update.

The street cup has a 17 inch rear and 18 inch front. Being an 18 inch front tyre choice is limited. Lots of off-road style tyres are only in 17,19, and 21 inch sizes.

So getting a set of Pirelli mt60 tyres fitted. Same tyre used by Ducati on their scrambler.

Will, let you know how it all goes

    Cheers

Thanks. Sort of far for me though. I'm in South Carolina US. I'm interested in the scrambler tire fit though. Thanks for sharing!

41779772-C782-4458-9E3E-3D2538F67BD0.jpeg These are the Pirelli tyres that I had fitted. Better for the roads for our winter skiddy roads. Got a front mud guard put on as well. Much prefer the look of the knoblies but much better road holding. Previous tyres going back on in the spring.
Yes a bit far to pop over from where you are !!!!!!

    Hi,
my front Pirelli Phantom tyre is worn out, so I'm then looking for a new tyre, which would you recommend, same style, and would you change both tyres?
I am mostly riding in urban areas, but I happen to ride down certain gravel roads as well.

Not sure with your mix of gravel riding, but it seems for pavement the Conti Road Attack 3s are what I’m going to try

I ended up with Conti Road Attack 3s.
Got the oem size for both. They have completely changed the character of the bike. Smooth as glass and handling is so much better. The only way I can describe the difference is that before it handled like a cool retro styled bike that rode like a tetro bike. Now it’s a cool looking retro bike that handles more like a modern bike. The original tires were junk when new in comparison.

I had them on my KTM 1190 adv. and they were CRAP! Like all tyres they were OK in the dry, warm roads but in the wet they were just dreadful. They completely robbed my confidence of riding in the wet - worst tyre ever for wet weather riding.

So far they’ve been an improvement in the wet over the Phantoms. Did you have the new version or old? Also, there is a heavier version for bigger adv bikes that don’t match what I am using
