Hi Pete, I don't think it is a blow from the manifold, I had a brief listen earlier with a breaker bar to the ear and it seems to be originating from the clutch area. the rad I assume has been repaired with jb weld but I cannot say, I took it to a radiator repair place local to me and he said it couldn't be welded. The repair seems to be holding pressure so I assume it's fine!
I have heard a common fault of generator fixing coming loose but this is the other side of engine, you need a experts ear that work on these bikes a Triumph dealer they know common noises with these engine/gearbox, These bikes do run at very high water temperature so i guess hot summer days will put it to the test just make sure you have correct anti freeze and correct amount in cooling system
Aup mate, no I haven't got around to it yet, I've been reading up on the valve clearances and these can cause engine noise and poor running so I'm just gonna check them myself I think. Ive bought a copy of the service manual and it looks easy enough. With me recently doing the cam cover gasket would this need renewing when I check the valve clearances? Or would I be able to get away with re using the that is in?
Hi SFT, it depends how it come off when you remove the cam cover. If it comes off clean and intact you're good to go.
Yeah they are, it cost me around 40 quid! But they do seem quite robust so I should be fine if I'm careful. Yes I did use a little rtv on the d sections and around the spark plugs to keep the gasket in place during installation. I'll got a couple of weeks off work so hopefully I'll get around to check them at some point. In the mean time, I gave her a good clean and as the weather was nice I decided to get a few snaps so here she is as she sits:
STF are you aware that valve clearances are shimmed and cams have to be removed to re shim do you feel you are OK to do this job if adjustment is needed ??? would you be able to take bike to a Triumph dealer for them to look at noise for you and advise you what noise is first.
Yeah I've read up on it and would feel confident tackling it with some help, but I will probably just check the clearances and get it diagnosed rather than replacing parts that don't necessarily need replacing
If it was me I would go to Dealer leave bike with them let them tell you what they think noise is because they are working on these bikes day in day out they have come across these noise issues before just listening to it they maybe able to tell you what it is without stripping and investigating it yourself.
