As a few will know at the end of March I had to have my last dog Fizz put to sleep.

For the last few years Fizz had Hypothyroidism (under active Thyroid) which meant she had to go to the vets every six months for a blood test and then I would obtain a prescription, you can only buy these meds with a prescription, and buy the meds online. Half price compared to the vets prices.

I’ve got a few hundred Thyforon tablets that are going spare if anyone has a dog that is on this medication.

Don’t want anything for them, I’d rather give them away rather than dispose of them.

I think my vet wanted 20p per tab and I was buying for 9p/10p per tab.

As you say the vet fees are :sob:

    Thanks Ade.

I’ve been around/owned dogs(gun dogs) virtually all my life and finally decided no more.
Although a gamekeeper friend offered me a Cocker Spaniel bitch pup for nowt, it was touch and go.

Vet fees can be astronomical and what I’ve found of late is that if any of my dogs wanted treatment and I asked for a estimate the vet would ask if the dog had insurance.
There must be a price for insurance work and non insurance work :worried:

Mine cost more to "run", what with, meds, food, vet. than my car.

    Totally agree Jez.

Vets know they can charge astronomically for pet treatments as it tugs at the owners heart strings.

Also the prices they charge for everyday pet care, worm tabs, flee treatment etc is unreal when you can buy the same product online for half the price

My little Border Terrier is coming on 10 now, it's almost impossible to get insurance at sensible money, the premiums go up and the level of cover goes down.
Not bothered this year, I'll just have to take the hit is she needs the vet.

Dragging his arse along the carpet is known as "scooting" perhaps that is why it's a popular name!

Sounds like a good idea to me,you all share the dog, so if everyone can make a contribution then brilliant.
I think the insurance companies are indeed bastards, they deliberately price us out knowing will will just walk away.

Don’t understand that “they deliberately price us out knowing we will just walk away” :worried:

If they did that then there would be no insurance companies, therefore putting themselves out of business or am I missing something here. Unless you mean for older dogs, then I totally agree.

After paying for pet insurance for our last dog and only getting 2/3rds of the cost of treatment back (£4K total o_O) we’ve decided with the cat we now have (had 2 until recently) that we’d just put aside £50 a month into an account to pay for any pet related expenditure.
There’s a good amount building up now and we’re not missing it as it goes via DD (not that one!) on payday each month. :grinning:

Yes,l meant for older dogs, once they get past about 8 the price rockets, my point being that they really only want low risk exposure.

Thank you! And don’t think I don’t always appreciate it, DD. :) This form is always a wealth of information. I particularly like the term wedged up (speaking of wealth). In fact, wedged up is what I would like to always be based on that definition. But I think in the US people might interpret “wedged up” to mean something quite different. ;):joy:
