Biltwell is kind of like Harley Davidson -tack on 40% because of the name. That's my opinion.

    Darkman,
Do you remember if there is room/gaps for sunglasses without them pressing into your head. I had a 3/4 years ago that the padding pushed on the frames and got painful after an hour or so.

My first lid was a DOT only Gringo-S. It was priced right and I liked it. However, over the years I bought an AGV X3000 which is ECE. Personally, that purchase motivated me to move away from any DOT rated helmet. ECE generally has more protective shock foam and padding. generally, for a $100 more, you generally get better materials and it feels more protective over DOT. I don't like DOT as it is sample-set tested and can be influenced or manipulated by the manufacturer providing the sample-set.

Good point about DOT vs ECE. Thanks

Well the primary purpose of a helmet is to protect your head...... all of it.

This might have been ‘state of the art’ circa 1965 but DoT is a minimum standard. You don’t need to spend big bucks to get better protection but if ‘adequate’ is good enough it is no worse than many. I suspect retro aesthetics matter to you. I am so ugly I can’t afford further damage.
