Hello boys and girls, well there are changes afoot at thebiglad's base. We've found another house house and have signed the initial purchase stage. The idea is that the property will be paid for by cashing in another pension plan,at the beginning of the new UK tax year. I cashed one in last year and the UK Inland Revenue mucked me about for 7 months regarding a tax rebate - I await it's arrival now. Because of that I want to ensure I have a plan B, which will be the proceeds of the KTM sale. Once the sale is concluded and the dust settled I'll buy myself another Triumph - either a Tiger 800 XRX or anew Bonneville.
Things seem to be going well for you biglad I'm trying to sell my property and get myself something too at least that was the plan but as always nothing goes as planned as i've spotted something. (more later). I believe Triumph are bringing out a 800 tourer type of bike that is worth watching out for, either way the Tiger and the Bonne are stonking bikes especially the new Bonne. I've only seen the Street Twin review and you know what these reviews are like on new bikes but it's highly rated with especially good handling but maybe under powered for you. The 1200 Bonne is the one I'm watching but little hope of having one unless I win the 46 million tonight then I might have two or three or.....
Thanks mate. It was bought at a good price so I'm not seeing too much trouble moving her on, perhaps by the end of March.
I do like the KTM a lot, it's a brilliant blend handling, performance and comfort, but it's not a Triumph and that is surprisingly more important than I imagined.
Good luck with the move. Are you staying in the same area or moving away ? The new Street Twin looks the best of the new Bonnie's,wouldn't mind on as a second bike for sunny Sundays. Oh! and good luck dealing with the Inland Revenue.......you'll need it
Hi RR, we're moving about 18kms west of where we are now,but I know the little town very well, as there is a British biker pub there and I call in often - for a coffee Re the Inland Revenue, they have told me that the cheque has been raised and posted, so we'll just wait and see??????
It's a beautiful part of France. I've stayed in Gueret and Peyrat le Chateau and need to get back for another look at the Millevaches sometime soon.
I didn't know that mate - next time you're here, please come visit. You would be more than welcome. If you haven't done Lac Vassivière I'll show you round there. It's got the most beautiful road right round the lake.
Thanks for the generous offer,I would have been down there this year but our usual crowd all wimped out ans SWMBO decided that we're off to the Picos. I'll be back
Yep, you won't be disappointed with the Picos, great scenery and roads, and the natives seem friendly. You're into the good stuff almost straight off the Santander ferry (although you might need a good pair of sea legs, ferry can be a bit bumpy down there). Only downer I can think of is the weather tends to be a bit British in my experience, been in that area 2 or 3 times and always seem to get a few days of fog/mist/drizzle, the stuff that sticks to your visor and end up pottering about with it up.
All the best biglad, is house selling and purchase of property straight forward in France. I have been selling a property over here and the red tape keeps on coming. One of my friends has sold his TOM recently - they have appeal to a wide section of bikers. Good luck mate..
I know my schoolboy French is a bit limited, but, am I right in thinking that Millevaches translates to 'a thousand cows'? And if I am right ... why take another look?? Did you not see them all last time?? Were there too many to appreciate all at once?? Are you a lover of these fine animals?? Is their milk exceptional? Is their meat exquisite? Am I getting hungry?? Should we all be worried for you? Damn this straightjacket!! AAAAAGGGGHHHH!!! NURSE ..... THE SCREENS!!!
I think the full name is Plateau of a thousand cows,we didn't see that many but there was a lot of trees and it seems it was the gravel spreading season, which made thing "interesting" Looking forward to the Picos de Europa.........apart from the boat
Buying and selling properties in France, hmmmmm. Well just to give you an idea, the documents we completed recently as part 1 of the purchase process to 2 hours to process. We had to initial each page of the papers, as well as signing in a numerous places and hand-writing certain phrases. All pages had to be initialled including every page of the various diagnostic documents. Must have been well over 100 pages in all. The market is still very slow here so a great time to buy, not so good for sellers. I plan that we will keep our existing for perhaps 2 or 3 years after we move into the new one, before attempting to sell it.
