Maybe it was me. I stuck a steel ball into the hose blocking it. Low rev jerking gone, popping gone. No issue. That was 30.000 kms ago...
Thats good and for now I will leave it at that. I do have the greek kit to remove it completey and proberly will soon. One more question, What are the symptoms that we would expect from a failure to the SAI ??? In the Haynes manual I cannot find one issue under fault finding that relates to sai.
Non ! Just the Light will come on , SAI is all about environmental protection ! It removes unburned fuel from the exhaust. Exhaust is waste / burnt gases exiting the engine. The only reasons for exhaust pipe's is the longevity of the valves and engines perform better with the exhaust gases exiting in an orderly and controlled fashion, they give engine designers control of performance , fuel economy or pure power is strongly affected by valve timing and exhaust port/pipe design.!!
while removing the air injection on a 2001 bonneville i noticed the treads are wrecked on the hole in the head beside the spark plug can i just block the hole with some liquid metal or is there back pressure there
Unfortunately that is not good, I would think the minimum would be to remove the cylinder head, maybe if your lucky a good engineering company may be able to recut the thread or make a oversize hole and blank it.
Quick question to those in the know, would he be able to try and screw some blanking plugs in there anyway as the threads are f'ked anyway, being careful that nothing cracks of course
I once did this on a Kawasaki GT750 Helicoiled a spark plug hole without taking the head off Thought I’d got away with it and everything seemed fine Went for a ride and a bit of swarf got jammed on the inlet valve seat It back fired through the carb and set fire to the air filter Only just managed to stop and get the seat off and had rip it to bits to get it out Nearly lost the bike Also if that plug wasn’t held in properly it could come out at full chat like a Feckin bullet and puncture the tank That could be interesting
You can helicoil it quite safely ,IF you ensure the cylinder on the side you are doing is @ top dead center ! This is to ensure swarf (as mentioned by @dilligaf doesn't get into cylinders) those holes are behind/outside the exhaust valves , they are in the exhaust port/exit ! Just use high pressure air to blow ports clean before you try starting it up ! I know this as I've had my motor apart to do top end modifications !
Thanks all again for the replies, just prove what a helpful bunch we are. Just an update, at the moment I have simply blocked the air pipe at the air box end with a suitable wooden dowl and ty wrap. the result is a quicker throttle response at at lower rpms, no popping, much reduced exhaust pipe bluing suspect cooler running. I think that's cracked it, maybe be for looks and easier spark plug access I will remove it all completely in the future, but I have my doubts it will improve the running any more than it is now.
Unfortunately I don't know how do remaps, I know its specialist work with equipment I do not have or the expertise if I did. If there was a book called remapping for idiots I would buy it so I could do the things you suggest.
Its really easy to do with a windows laptop and a Lonelec cable but if your happy with the way the bike is standard map and light mods then no real need to remap it,I only did mine as changed the end cans it was not even running that bad the previous bonneville owned had the whole hog done TTP stage one map pipes airbox mods 02 sensors SAI ect recon it gave the bike another 20 BHP
Well thats where it all started with my Bonny the Hyde peashooters made it pop and bang on the overrun so junking the SAI system eliminated that issue same as my current Thruxton the remap i used on this bike is the OEM triumph factory TORS map and it runs fine so all personal preference you can do so much to these machines its yours to decide how to make it your own
Ooh thats pretty love the colour and the seat/rack combo are those engine casings chrome coated type or highly polished as i cant get mine nowhere like it but they are brush alloy
