Is there ever a time you put the best interests of the many over the wants of the individual in your Declaration of Independance?

Just because you have the right to do something doesn't make it a good idea. It's selfishness that will keep this pandemic spreading. Unfortunately this country is also full of selfish t**ts that don't want to give up their freedom, all it's going to do is increase the spread of the virus and overwhelm our health service, some of who are already dying in front line. I've got a brand new bike in the shed and am itching to ride it but I won't. I couldn't live with myself if my actions, even in a roundabout way, cost someone their life.

    Hi Ron,

There is no anti American stance on this - the point is, we are all in this together, whether we like it or not, we are all in the same leaky boat.

The cussedness - if I may call it that - of many Americans is one of the many things I love about your country. In a different life, I'd like to live there (Colorado for me). It's just that, sometimes, perhaps, keeping a low profile on things isn't a bad idea.

    With respect,

    Beerman

We have a thing called "COVID-19". It doesn't give a good God damn for the Declaration of Independence and it certainly doesn't give a flying f*ck for your rights under the fifth - or any other - amendment.

The rest - and the bulk - of society has a moral right to be protected FROM people that think "due process" and personal choice have some kind of priority over social and societal responsibility.

    You're right about one thing - you're not a sheep ............

This seems a good time to use the bike sensibly for grocery shopping or getting supplies to someone utilising the extra (if not significant) protection keeping your gloves and helmet on gives.

Avoiding the major supermarkets and going to a shop a bit more remote would also make sense (and give you a mini leisure ride) to avoid the crush and higher contamination risk of the supermarkets.

Just make sure you wipe your gloves down before you touch your helmet. And sit on your arm for a bit beforehand for added pleasure.

Agree. I've been out on my bike several times and not had an issue despite passing several police vehicles. It's no different than going out with the dog of for a bike ride.

I'm sadly still not recovered from my accident to go out but I'd use the bike to get essentials if I could (I don't have a car anyway).

If people are sensible and only going on short journeys then the risk is reduced as there is less traffic on the road. Most will probably be too tempted to gun it round though with empty roads thinking plod is busy elsewhere.

Fair play on your stance though.

    Thanks mate.

Seems a good way to combine both if people are sensible though. Maintaining mental health is important ,as long as people are not taking the pi*s going to another county to get their shopping.

My friend is a taxi driver and said it's like Christmas for him, less drivers on shift and customers going regularly to the supermarket for something to do. Also a lot of people sneaking around at night to visit others but I'm going off topic.

What concerns me is that when we can ride again, the roads may have more accidents as people will be riding dangerously fast because they have been house bound.

After this is all over with, It’ll be madness everywhere. People flying off on holiday, campervans and caravans choking up the roads, all night raves and parties, people getting drunk and hugging each other in the street. Oh yes bring back normality.

    Hmm.

Over on the Guzzi Wildgoose site, they have some rules:

    General Discussion
    1. No un-justified personal or dealer attacks. 2. Keep the content motorcycle related. There is no room for politics, guns, religion, spam, click-bait, etc. 3. There is no room for "raunchy" posts with adult or mature content. 4. Posting of for sale items allowed only in the classified section. Failure to adhere to these simple, common courtesy, common sense rules will result in your being banned to ever post on the Moto Guzzi Discussion site again.

Not everyone would like it, but I can see why they have those rules.
