Best Modern Tyres For Classic T140

    Hi All,

    1st job I need to do is replace the tyres on my '79 T140e. Whilst I appreciate this is a vintage bike, I don't necessarily want to fit vintage rubber.

    So, what are the best dry weather tyres to fit my Bonnie? Something that will improve grip and feel, at any lean angle, without worrying about tyre life. Think Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa for classic tubed applications.... :)

    I fitted Avon Roadrunners on my low powered Suzuki Tempter ST400, I am very pleased with them, several other classic bike owners in my area also report good feedback with them.

    I ran Roadrunners on my 1973 Yamaha TX500, they’re really good tyres and provide modern levels of grip.

    I ran AM26 Roadrunners on my T100 for about 5 yrs - excellent all round grip and lasted well too.

    I recommend Avon Road riders rather than the older road runners. I used to have roadrunners but the road riders are a huge improvement.

    Look on the avon website. www.avontyres.com/en-gb. Not the usa site. It has all the recommended sizes and types.
    I've had a 110/90/18 on my rear which was fine. Now I have a 120/90/18 but its only just narrow enough to fit. The 110 fits better tbh.
    On the front I currently have a 90/90/19 but looks a bit skinny.
    When I do a replacement I might go to a 100/90/19.
    I started using road riders quite a few years ago (~2008 ish?) and immediately noticed the handling improved dramatically. (Wet and dry).
    I had roadrunners on before.

    So it sounds like the best way to go for dry grip is: Avon Road Riders 100/90x19 on the front and 110/90x18 on the rear.
    Are there any other options I should consider please?

    try continental classic attacks..... ace grip wet or dry

    I have road riders on all my classic bikes. Great tyre wet or dry
    Dave what are you getting out of a rear tyre with contis?? The riders are about 2.5 3k on tbe rear
