The thing is John without the motorsports events there’s not many ££££’s coming onto the island to keep their tourist industry afloat.
So the pressure will be on Tynwald and the ACU to try and make the events happen.

I was talking about this with my riding buddy, over lunch on Wednesday and we’ve decided that so long as the ferries are sailing and our hotels open we’ll be there for our 2 trips to the IOM with or without the races being run.

The Isle of Man government has cancelled the 2020 TT Races which were due to take place between 30th May and 13th June.

The decision was taken as the Island stepped up its measures to protect the population against the pandemic.

"The decision to cancel has not been taken lightly and all options, including postponement and delaying the decision, have been considered in detail.

"Representatives from the Isle of Man Government will now discuss the implications with all relevant businesses, stakeholders and individuals affected by this cancellation, which it recognises will be significant."

    – LAURENCE SKELLY MHK, MINISTER FOR ENTERPRISE
The Department for Enterprise says it will issue full refunds for all Official Tickets including grandstand tickets, hospitality packages and other Official Event Experiences purchased through iomttraces.com.

It's also looking at options to support businesses affected by the cancellation and will be introducing a range of support measures, the first of which will be announced in Tynwald tomorrow.

Here's the other announcements by the Government today:

    • Anyone arriving in the Isle of Man from 23.59 tomorrow (Tuesday 17 March) will be required to take immediate action:
    • Those displaying symptoms of coronavirus will be required to self-isolate for at least 14 days
    • Those not displaying symptoms of coronavirus will be required to self-isolate for at least 14 days, to eliminate the possibility they are carrying infection
    • Those aged 70 and over or pregnant or have underlying health conditions are strongly advised to take extra care to prevent the possibility of being infected. More guidance will be issued shortly
    • Schools will remain open
    • Testing for coronavirus in the community will be stepped up with immediate effect
    • Due to the measures being introduced today, at this stage Government will not be placing any restriction on public gatherings
    • The Government will be taking necessary steps to postpone both the 2020 local authority general elections and the Douglas South by-election until further notice
    • A package of measures will be introduced by the Treasury to support the Island’s workforce and protect the economy
"We are taking action to protect our residents and to ensure life can continue as normal as possible during this unpredictable time.

"We are advising against all non-essential travel off the Island, and the measures being introduced from tomorrow are aimed at minimising the risk of those arriving in the Island infecting our population."

    – HOWARD QUAYLE MHK, CHIEF MINISTER
