Hello, I'm new here. I have a 2001 Trophy and have never seen it! Four years ago I bought it sight unseen from a trusted source and then promptly had a heart attack! Bi-pass surgery and feeling much better now i would like to get it going . I live in Rhode Island and the bike is in California in storage in Thousand Oaks. The plan was... to ride up he coast to Portland then across to Rhode Island.Any thoughts on this in general? I plan on taking the tank off and cleaning it out and suggestions on the carbs would be appreciated. Found a great u-tube on taking the plastic off and was able to download the shop manual. Found a couple of suggestions of washing out the carbs while still on the bike with SeaFoam? Thoughts? I have built a few bikes up in the past so not a rookie except I have not worked on this specific bike yet.Previous bikes were1971 Norton 850 Interstate,1971 BMW R60 complete teardown and rebuild of motor etc. 1970 MotoGuzzi Ambassador. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks , Beetle
Welcome, from Southern California. When you get situated on the site, I'll.tell you what little I know. I have 3 Hinckley [left handed] Triumphs of my own. ...J.D. P.S. Is your bike a 900 or 1200 ?
You have not really had a direct answer to your question but much depends on whether the bike was laid up for storage (greased, drained down etc.,) or just left to sit. If the latter, the fuel system will be gunked up and needing a clean through. Seafoam might work for local rides but ahead of a trek I would drop the float bowls and blow everything through with carb cleaner as a minimum. An ultrasound bath would be best of all. Rubber hoses on a near 20yr old bike...... ditto the tyres. Unless they were new on I would not go trans Continental. You also need an air hawk because that seat will have lost its resilience and in short order so too will your......... It must 3,500 miles or thereabouts?
Hi Beetle and welcome in to the Triumph Asylum - Nursie will be round soon with your 'meds''. Are you planning on riding your bike home ????
I would get in contact with a reliable dealer here in California and arrange for them to get it in order for you. Then when it is done, fly out and ride it back. Just my thoughts on the situation. ...J.D.
