anyone else’s seat cowl come off on the bike while traveling and you would swear bling it had been locked correctly?
Hi Wayne Mine also fell off even though I checked it had clicked. Just ordered another one and Triumph have none until September 14 as on back order seems this maybe common error. Looking at the locking pin there is a rubber washer which when removed seems to be a better ‘clck’ . I was lucky enough to recover mine even though damaged £152 for a replacement . Seat seems to fit better straight away though???
Think your right As it’s on back order . Wrote email to Triumph see what happens but can only blame myself first time in over 30 yrs riding lost owt off bike.
Hi Andy Asked and said no mate. Just have to not remove it much in future. Sent email to Triumph so watch this space . But maybe if enough other owners come forward will sort it outtry what you suggested with pin but seat seems easier to get a good purchase into lock?? Strange!!
On the RS one there is a rubber washer around pin so removing this may give a little more free play have to wait til get new one and maybe file pin also. Thanks for your tip
guys, i had this happen when bike went in for 1st service the teh did not clip in right went bouncing down the road then ran over by a car i was well pissed off ,they had to order everything tool kit etc . looks like not available to sept jason
Hi I have wrote an email and explained this to Triumph and Explained it could happen quite easily to other owners . I’m sorry this has happened to you also , but this proves a point the Triumph Technician with training can also make this error. I will email them once more and put it to them.
Hey, upping this thread I picked up my brand new Speed Tripler RS 3 days ago. It arrived with the passanger seat on and I drove home like this. I stopped on the way and took out my brake lock which I stashed there, and but the seat back on.. and it clicked!! When I came back I just accidentally pulled it and the seat went off.. So I KNEW this when I put on the sportier cowl instead, I gave it a good thump and felt it was in place. 10 minutes later I saw it in my rear view mirror, my nice new cowl in the air flying in the wind to an inevitable death....
My seat cowl departed whilst doing 70mph down a dual carriageway. Felt something flapping at my arse and wondered if the rucksack I was wearing had something to do with it. 2 seconds later I saw my seat cowl bouncing along the road behind me. Guessed it would be done in but still went through the rigmarole of retrieving it. So need a new seat cowl now, and yes, I could have sworn it was carefully locked in place. Not happy!
Hi all, first time on here but I have some info relating to this thread. picked up a seat cowl for my Speed 1050R.(2016) I removed the passenger seat and fitted the cowl but could not get it to provide the reassuring click when locating the cowl, if i grabbed it with force it came off when the latch was supposedly locked. I looked at the catch on the frame where the lug locates and noticed the location of the moving catch was on the right side of the bike, the lug on the cowl did not match as the slot for the locating pin on the underneath of the cowl was approx 90 degrees out. I believe that when they mold the lug onto the seat cowl framework, if they have not positioned it correctly the locating slot on the pin wont line up with the catch mechanism on the frame. I used a pair of pliers to carefully rotate the lug on the base of the cowl to match the location of the catch plate on the frame. It now clicks in perfectly and i am not in fear of it flying off. Spoke to Triumph dealer about this possible cause of these fitment failures and they seemed disinterested at best.
New to forum and first post. Just picked up my New Speed Triple RS today. Is the Seat cowl meant to come with the bike plus the seat? cheers
Hi Stuart, and welcome in hopefully you'll get a reply here but if not try posting in the Speed Triple section and say hi in the Newbie Hangout section
