Sunday night there was a local fatality on an interstate highway. I am troubled at the official conclusion and I would like to see what you think.

This is what happened, according to the local authorities. All involved parties were traveling East on the road. There was a big truck parked on the shoulder, having some sort of mechanical trouble. The car came upon the scene and admitted that she was changing lanes, to provide a safe distance, when she was sideswiped by the motorcycle. The rider was thrown from the bike, resulting in his immediate death.

There are no charges filed and the whole thing is just chalked up to an unavoidable accident. Does this strike anyone else as a rather strange conclusion? The only witnesses were those involved, and of course, one of them can't tell his story

So, this whole sad tale just gets written up as another crazy biker death. This just sucks!

Bit difficult to say really as no speeds are put up, by side swiped do you mean close to t boned or just a glancing blow?
Either way it looks like someone wasn’t paying attention, I guess the question would be who?
And as littleade says, over here there would be a full blown investigation.

Clearly the car driver didn’t look, if a side swipe means side impact, the bike was in the outside lane and car pulled straight into them
Definitely in UK it would be looked at closely and certainly not written off as an unavoidable accident
I can imagine some will say that the rider should have anticipated the cars manoeuvre bearing in mind there was a broken down lorry ahead..... still doesn’t excuse the car driver not looking, slowing down, or stopping if not safe to change lanes!!!!

This kind of accident, like most any, has many contributing factors. I saw this on the news report Monday morning and it grabbed my attention. The posted speed limits on the interstates are 70MPH. I was under the impression that the authorities did a thorough investigation. Of course, the specific details are not made public. By the way, wet weather on a very busy interstate highway.

I was not blaming anybody, just giving thought as to the numerous ways this all played out. David was 44 years old.

Tragic story mate. As has been said there are to many variables to be able to establish who was a fault, so the conclusion is it was accidental. It sucks but unfortunately that life today....
