Hey guys, Not been on this forum as much as I'd like due to work pressures. Anyway the sad details, driver entered my lane and knocked me off coming out on to an island. The lady driver was great to be fair, horrified at what she had done and admitted liability on the spot and tried to help as much as she could. A biker and another driver further back helped me and the bike out the road and sat with me for a cuppa as we were next to a café where it happened. Showed there are good people about. The clutch lever is twisted on the rocketship and a footpeg in the road with other dents you'd expect. Got a lift to A & E who gave me a quick check but didn't want to stay for hours waiting. I'm still shaken, following up with the GP as potentially have whiplash by the symptoms. I'm questioning my long commute on the bike now. Probably not the right time to think until I'm in a better frame of mind. Thanks for reading.
so sorry to hear this, having an off is always traumatic especially as we get older. When I hit gravel a few years back it bloody hurt. At least the at fault driver copped for it, as some will not.
Thanks Jerry, the biker said she witnessed her admit liability and would confirm if needed. Trying to get the motivation to sort today. Sorting insurance is always a pain the backside.
Sorry to hear this, on your recovery and decisions don’t rush anything! Keep on top of the insurance claim and get the statement from your witness ASAP wether you think you’ll need it or not.
Not so good mate, glad your ok physically though, hope you get everything sorted out amicably and get yourself back on the road as soon as possible, wishing you all the best, cheers
Hi Gazza, sorry to hear your news, the only saving grace is that she wasn't a twat about it and accepted fault straightaway. If I can just say, Don't make any rush decisions for a few weeks until you know you are back to normal - whatever that means !!!!
Thanks for all the comments guys, some useful info as well. I'm going across the road to see my neighbour who's a seasoned biker and have a chat. Have phoned the driver and asked she make contact with her insurance so we can set the ball going. A quote would have been silly money I think with the damage and cost for replacement parts. Am going to have a think when I feel a bit better, but the hour commute each way is a killer especially if I end up doing a long shift at work.
Sorry to hear about your off. Hopefully you are not badly hurt and can get your bike sorted by the womans insurance.
Gazzatheyid. So so sorry to hear the news mate. And I do hope you get back to your self soon. Yes I feel I agree with you an hour each way this time of year is taking big chance. When I was working 12 hour shifts I did feel it and just know that really I should not have been on a bike. But do get your self well then decide were you go from there. And just know we are all with you. Regards Joe.
Sorry to hear of your off mate ; I was taken off at a T junction, in september and like you, immediately after was pondering whether at my age (63) should be commuting. But 3 weeks later bought a cheap bike and got back into it, was nervous first few days, every junction had a sniper on it, but it passed quickly, so don't let the feckers add to your commute time, the lighter days/nights are coming so commuting will be safer shortly.
Sorry to hear this but glad you are ok. Similar thing happened to me around 5 years ago when some old git decided to come over into my lane. Didn't hit me but I came off due to instinctively braking hard. The twat never even saw me and didn't stop so all on my insurance. Get your insurance sorted and you'll be back on a bike in no time!
Thanks mate. Some of the idiots I see regularly on the motorway have been putting me off recently as well. Sure I'll feel differently in a few days. Am chasing the women's again today as heard nothing from her or the insurance which is a worry.
I have her full details and a witnesses details who heard her admit liability. Was a lady in her late 50s who was very sorry and said her brother's a biker so am hopeful it's the insurance who haven't got in touch being that it's a weekend.
Cheers I've been lucky and only had good experience with other people's insurance once they've admitted liability. They usually offer assistance straight away. I need to recover the bike as can't stay at my work forever. Sadly the foot peg is snapped so it's not safe to ride any distance. Think I'll have to recover it and send them the bill if I don't hear soon.
One of the reasons I always ride with a GoPro. After the event and they have weighed up the implications people often change their tune, very few people have any honour these days. @gazzatheyid I hope you get it all resolved to your satisfaction very quickly.
