There's a saying about friendship: "Good friends will help you move. Best friends will help you move the body". I have a new saying. "Good moto friends will ride with you. Best moto friends will ride FOR you". I've been fretting about my motorcycles sitting idle while I heal from my bicycle crash of just over a month ago. This past Sunday I encouraged Mr. Sandi to go ride with our Sunday ride group and he did just that. When he came home, he pulled up to the driveway with four of our best moto friends who were all set to "exercise" my idle motorcycles. Kelly rode my Triumph (which he's been itching to do since I brought it home a year ago). Larry rode my Road Glide Special. And Mr. Sandi rode my Dyna Low Rider S (which he hates BTW--that's true love). Our buddy, Russell, the one with Annie on the leash, was kind enough to hang out with me while the boys rode off on my three bikes. I love my motorcycle buddies!! And I have to say, it was pretty cool to see all of my three motorcycles roar off together at the same time...even though I wasn't on one of them.
Evidently according to "some" people, Annie does look like a vicious man eating beast. To me she looks like the most sweet, gentle, and loving dog known to man (and woman) kind, DD. But, hey, when she goes into "protect my mom" mode, I'll take it!
After 50 years of proper riding, I get on a cruiser bike and keep searching for the pegs and the gearshift at every stop. Feel retarded. Cheers to your friends.
It's a shame you are thousands of miles away Sandi, or I would volunteer to take the Triumph out for a gentle bimble to blow the cobwebs away!
Jealous of your blue sky once again Sandi - this is what we get. (But at least I am out on the bike and it's not actually raining for once!
You are a brave lady letting your pride and joy(s) go out with you not on them. Trust is a wonderful thing.......
Being so precious with my ride, I would struggle to let someone else ride her, but I thought of your situation and agree they need ”riding”. So happy to see you recovering and cannot wait to hear about your first thrash in Bullet/Black beauty
Yes, trust is a wonderful thing, Wessa! That said, I was a bit leery of the whole deal but figured it would all work out. And it did. Of course, they didn't exactly tell me just HOW they rode my bikes!
Glad you got out and it was dry, Steve, even though the skies are rather gloomy in your photos. But a day riding under gray skies is certainly better than a day not riding at all! Your bike is looking good. I'm partial to orange, having an orange bike myself. I call it my "high viz" bike. Orange is even better under cloudy conditions I'll wager!
It was a bit difficult letting others ride my bikes, Dartplayer. But I've ridden tens of thousands of miles with Mr. Sandi and thousands of miles with Kelly and Larry so I felt a bit less anxious as they rode off together. I was happy and relieved to see them all come back in one piece, though! Both the bikes and the men. Thanks for the kind comments about my recovery. I'm really eager to drive my Bullit and "exercise" my own bikes. I'm getting quite antsy and some days a bit cranky honestly. But I'm working on being patient and at looking at my progress across days and weeks and remembering that slow and steady wins the prize. Well, unless we're talking motorcycle racing, right @Bad Billy?
@Bad Billy, of "Bad Billy Racing" fame? A "gentle bimble". Riiiggghhht..... But thanks for the offer!
Ah, didn’t realize you had a Bullit. We are talking about the Mustang right? I’ve had several vintage pony cars over the years. The one that was the most fun was a Mach 1 with a big block mill. Was only my second car when I was in my early 20s and I don’t know how I survived! Is yours a new or vintage? My local dealer has two new Bullits on the lot, been meaning to go test drive one, but I’m afraid it will follow me home That would put a fair damper on the funds and time for bike shenanigans!
Hi, @OsteKuste! Yep, I have a 2019 Mustang Bullit as of about three weeks ago. You can see some photos and a bit about how (and why!) I wound up with this car on a thread I started a few weeks ago titled My New Therapy Animal is a Black Mustang. I‘d love to hear more about your Mustangs and get your take on the new ones. What you mentioned about one following you home if you went to test drive one is sort of what happened to me. But I didn’t even test drive it because when I first started looking at it I couldn’t even get into the car because of my stupid bicycle injuries. I still haven’t driven it but I have ridden shotgun with Mr. Sandi multiple times. Even being a passenger is awesome and I am itching to drive it myself as soon as I’m healed enough to be able.
That’s the very one I was looking at, but in the dark green I believe. I have a long history with those cars but haven’t owned one in years. Growing up my family restored vintage models and took them to shows. We always drove them though! Our cars included a 64 1/2 early model, a 66 fastback with 289 Hi Po and 4 speed, my 69 Mach 1 big block, 71 and 71 Mach 1s, and a 73 convertible we restored to concourse level. It won national level shows and even got a multiple page spread in Mustang Monthly magazine. Oh, and we had a 71 Ford Ranger XL short bed pickup we stuffed a 428 super cobra jet engine into just for fun! With sticky wide tires it would carry the front wheels about 20 feet I haven’t been in any modern Mustangs till about a month ago when I flew to Tampa and got a brand new convertible as a rental. I was tearing up the roads around there thinking how much fun it was and how fast it felt. Couldn’t believe the rental was a v8 and just had to check out the engine so I popped the hood only to find half the engine missing! It was the turbocharged 4 with over 300hp and would have hurt my old big blocks feelings. Handling was crazy good. I want to drive the Bullit but if I buy I may get the 4cyl. I’ve seen there are some crazy upgrades to that platform pushing it to well over what the GT numbers are. With the lighter weight of the 4cyl sitting over the front wheels and that much power it would be a slayer out on the track. I tried to get the front to shove but was almost impossible in the dry. I’m a tinkerer anyway and would be a fun build. Sorry about the long post but figured you’d at least be entertained for a minute.
Ahhh, @OsteKuste, thank you! I was entertained for far longer than a minute as your post brought back memories. The Mustangs of your past life were AMAZING! Just think. If you had those today and were willing to part with them at an auction like Mecum, you'd bring home a pretty penny! What a fun way to grow up. I knew next to nothing about cars when I was growing up, mostly just general stuff like, "Hey, that's a cool car!" My dad had a 1966 Mustang convertible in Candy Apple Red. It was his pride and joy and was used to cart around many a Homecoming Queen in the local parades in my small hometown. It was damaged when a tornado hit our town and the farm. It sat for a long while and eventually my youngest brother, who farmed our family farm with our dad, sold it a few years after Dad passed away. My brother now wishes he'd kept the Mustang. Dad's Mustang looked like this one. When I was in high school my family wound up with a second generation '70's Mustang II. In fact, in addition to the tractors we had, this was the car in which I learned to drive a stick shift. I don't know much about that car nor do I know what year it was. That Mustang looked like this. Same color and everything. Let me know if you do go test drive a Bullitt. Or any other of the modern day Mustangs. I'd love to get your opinion. One of the amazing things to me is the technology in new cars like the Mustangs these days. My car has 5 modes--Snow/Wet, Normal, Sport+, Track, Drag Strip (I kid you not), and My Ride (I think that's what it's called--customized mode). And you can also tailor the exhaust sound as well as customizing the steering feel. I haven't seen the Highland Green Bullitt but most likely would have opted for black anyway. Although keeping up a black car in the desert is tough. Good idea to rent a Mustang so you could get in a l-o-n-g test ride! P.S. Love the Ford Ranger XL short bed pickup with the jet engine!
