Hi, I’ve a Schuberth C3pro but much prefer my Shoei J Cruise open face which has a big flip clear visor, as I can see much better and feel more in tune with the world. In the cold days though I use my Schuberth but vision is much more restricted and the pinlock anti fog irritates me as I can see the top edge which is not that far above my line of sight when riding. I’m thinking of removing the pinlock so I’ll just be looking through the clear visor but is this silly and just cause immediate fogging in slow/ stopped traffic even if I have the visor slightly open? .. I wear specs so that doesn’t help but as I generally choose not to ride on damp days I’m thinking of giving it a try... any thoughts thanks
try it if it doesn't work put it back, you can get anti fog sprays, I've never used them but someone will give you their opinion
I received pinlock visors with two of my helmets, but I've never bothered to install them, if my visor ever starts to fog up I just crack it open a bit. I might be missing out, but I also wear glasses whilst riding, so how many layers of perspex/glass do I need? I've just remembered that those same two helmets also have dropdown sun visors, so if I installed the pinlock then potentially that could be 4 layers between my eyes and the route ahead
I’ve a Schuberth C3pro with the pinlock installed. The original one wasn't tight enough to create the seal against the visor but they sent me another and that fits perfectly. They genuinely do work if fitted correctly and I wouldn't have a helmet that didn't' use the system. In this damp weather the visor will just fog up whatever you do.
I use a pinlock on my shoei helmet and I also wear glasses. I rarely get any fogging on the visor, I give my glasses a little spray with antifog spray which I find stops my glasses fogging up as well. All is good in my world...
If you want to keep the visor from fogging up without a pin lock, then go old school and smear a little washing up liquid on the inside and wipe until clear. Still works!
Or do as I do and don't ride in the rain... I do have a Pinlock on my Arai but only because it's the photochromic one that darkens in sunlight. The insert so neatly fits right round the edge of the visor so I can barley see it even if I look for it.
If you take the pin lock off you’ll almost certainly get fogging on cold days as soon as you breath on the visor - I tried anti fogging spray in the past (muc off I think) and it was pretty good, but still had to open the visor when slow moving or stationary and you have to apply it in a particular way iirc. I suffer the same issue as you with the pin lock on my Arai but I’d rather see the top of the pin lock in my peripheral vision than suffer from surprise visor fogging!! best Nick
Thanks for all replies.. bike is at the dealership this Thursday so that’s a 30 odd mile round trip in whatever the weather happens to chuck at me ... so think I’ll take no chances of getting caught out by sudden fogging up and leave the pinlock on for this time of year... when it’s a bit warmer weather I’ll try it without . Any further comment or advice is still very welcome thanks
