I commute every day over the moors on my Tiger 5 days out of 7 in all weathers...except of course ice and snow !
I have the zr7which is now my hack, bonnie still with the dealers waiting for parts, the z650 I am/was restoring and the he gs650gl which is on early retirement which I will fix one day....definitely need a scrambler. My other half is more the outdoors type and does not spend on girlie accessories and is far better than I deserve, and no, she is not monitoring this thread.
With apologies to the late Terry Jones - luxury, when I were young I had to pedal 80 miles each way on t'rusty pedal bike wit no tyres.
Gave it up a bit early this year in October, since I had to work in China for two weeks. On return, average temps were below my limit of 3,0 C. I have a 30 minute ride across the frontier, so the cold tends to seep in. it just isn't fun to ride in the cold and dark mornings only to ride home under fading slate skies and threats of snow. Pushed it too far one year and vowed never again, as the freezing rain was building up on my legs. Sadly we will wait for spring, and hope to get out in April again.
It's what you say when she tries on an expensive dress, if you say nice 'frock' she will normally scoff at you then put it back!
I'm still commuting into the big smoke by bike (70 mile round trip), although I'm using my Ducati Multistrada rather than my Triumph Speed Twin. The Mutley has heated grips and has much better weather protection. I do wear a heated jacket too, but I don't usually turn it on unless it gets really nippy. IMO the worst thing about commuting this time of the year is the dark (my commute starts at 6am) and recently I managed to ride over a dead badger laying in the middle of the road. I didn't see it until it was too late, luckily both me and the bike survived, however I was launched into the air for a split second! Certainly was a squeaky bum moment and I was still finding bits of dead badger wedged in the nooks and crannies of my bike for weeks afterwards! Roll on the spring!
Sounds pretty dodgy, I'm still doing a weekly comute to corfe castle via the studland ferry....certainly had the old balloon knot twitching yesterday, the road through purbeck was very icy , l was crapping myself round some of the bends...l could feel the tyres slipping ....in places it was 20 mph and feet down! Never been so glad to see the castle hove into view!
Always commuting on my tiger, but it's only a 25 min ride in. I also go for 1/2 day rides every other weekend. Wear enough layers, heated grips & screen and it's really not a problem. But I'll get the bus if we have snow & ice.
I have the same ones, easy to fit and they really work. When used with heated grips you never have cold hands. I'll be using them on the dragon rally in a couple of weeks. Not much cool factor though!
Mine too Aiden, and it had dried solid, took ages to get the bike back to Blue............. And as for Ms Tigers boots.....Oh dear!
I used to use my bikes all the time to commute to work before I retired. I still ride all year round unless it is below 2c or snow on the ground. Luckly in Cheshire we rarely get snow and the temperature only gets down really low on rare occasions. Happy days
Just looked at my dry dirt on my van today and it’s never ever been so filthy, not a shiny bit in sight, I would look just as grey never mind my bike if I rode to work on country roads this last week. Now can you imagine scrubbing all your biking gear every second day or so?
