I'm unsure of where the brake arm is. I think I'm going to write it tomorrow, check for the sound, and remove the front sprocket cover. Given that the sound occurs after I ride, I believe it's something cooling off that perhaps overheated that shouldn't be heating up. I can press down on top of the chain and it makes contact with his little plastic guide over the frame. Do I check the chain slack with a side stand or Center stand?
Hi GS re chain tension checking, you always, ALWAYS check the chain tension on the SIDE stand, not the centre stand. But before we go too much further, these noises that you speak of, when do they happen : After you have finished riding, with the engine turned off ? or After you have been riding for a while, and continue to ride, and the noise happens whilst the engine is running ? GS can you post a picture of the inside of the front sprocket cover that you took off, I want to see if there are any signs of the chain rubbing on the aluminium cover plate? Dave
Regards Joe.[/QUOTE] Sorry for the long delay but I was finally able to create a YouTube video to show you the clanking sound that my bike makes when at rest and cooling after a long ride. Since then I have replaced the rear brake pads with factory OEM, and I have no more clanking sounds when cooling off. is it possible that the pads were making constant contact and there was heat transfer though I felt no resistance? Here is that clank at the 16 second and 31 seconds marker. It is not as loud. Is this a concern? Ant thoughts on the cause?
Difficult to tell from a video, but to me it just sounds like your silencer cooling down and the varing contraction rates of the metals as it is doing so. However it must be getting pretty hot, and I've not heard mine making as much noise as that on cool down
