Vented Or Non Vented.

Looks like you need a new tank ! never mind filler cap !

 

Assuming both fit, I would go vented. Do you know if both fit, that is the question you are asking?

 

The early T300 models were vented caps , as the fuel isn't pumped out , it's gravity fed to the carburetors ! A non vented cap would case a vacuum and then the fuel wouldn't flow well enough and bike would suffer fuel starvation , it would run for a few minutes/miles and stop !!

 

Fuel injected tanks still need a vent its just not in the cap.

 

The cap on my Trident is vented. I know this because it 'sings' as the temperature rises/falls and the air in the tank expands/contracts, forcing the tank to breathe. Sounds quite melancholy sometimes.

 

People replying to this thread are not necessarily going to know about the previous one ...i didn't so it obvious someone is going to mention the state of the tank...not very friendly!

 

I'm not sure if you possess a sense of humour Tony, but if you do you might want to engage with it when you come on here
You will find an awful lot of useful information given to whatever problem you care to post, but interspersed with that may be the odd flippant comment or observational piece it doesn't make the relevant posts any less valid but the forum keeps things light hearted but informative
If people feel they are just going to get slammed you might find the useful stuff dries up
