Surely the idea was to compile a list of the best and most influential bands from the UK and the USA and then see who gets the most votes. It's not necessarily a list of your favourite bands.
Anyone mentioned Judas Priest yet? :D

Iron Maiden, Def Leppard - Britain wins for me

Maybe a better way to solve it is bands with top selling albums per capita. Think Britain will win on that easily, but there have been great bands from both sides of the Atlantic.

Dunno about that last bit, what about Bob Jovi, Metal loaf and Mentallica for starters.
For me tho it's Brit rock rules, Kinks, Stones, the Who, Cream, Bowie (sorry DD), Zeppelin, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Whitesnake,
Maiden, Queen (early albums when they were a pure rock band)

Hard call. Some other bands to consider: ELO, EL&P, Supertramp, Yes, the Moody Blues on the Brit side. American side: Jefferson Airplane, Allman Bros, Doobie Bros, the Byrds, Bob Dylan, the Band (Canadian-American). Then throw in CSN&Y - American, Canadian, British members just to confuse the issue. Rock and roll may have originated in the US (Blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll) but I think the Brits developed it. I'll vote for the Brits, but glad I can have both in my musical collection. Long live ROCK, I need it every night (and day)!!!

Sure is a close run topic. Can I settle for the bikes though. As I love my Wife and I don't drink.

I normally pay little attention to the nationality of the music I like.

I gave the brits the nod due to the strength of Pink Floyd, ELP, Moody Blues, and Dire Straits.

Lots of great artists from the USA, that weren't listed CCR, zz top, SRV, lynard skynard, etc. R&B, Southern Rock, and Rock all kind of get lumped together in the USA. My tastes vary with my mood, but CCR will brighten any day.

There’s a great young musician from just south of you in Oklahoma called John Fullbright who I really like, you’ll probably hate him.
