Hi all, thanks for having me here! I'm looking to purchase a Bonneville as my first bike and hoping to learn from the collective knowledge here as I embark on my motorcycle journey. I apologize in advance if I ask stupid questions but I also promise to read the FAQs first to keep those stupid questions to a minimum!

Thanks for the warm welcome, all! I see this is a predominantly Brit forum which, to me, is good as I appreciate your humor and insight. I hope to be able to contribute soon enough, I'm looking at a 2001 and a 2006 Bonneville this weekend, though I'm hoping the '06 is the better of the two. We shall see but I'll post the results one way or the other.

I would also remind you that you have a few 18th Century quirks like ‘gotten’. We have used ‘got’ for 200 years and saved barrels of ink and atmospheres of breath......

Welcome ! As an American, I can say I understand about 95% of what is said :D On my side, I try to keep the local slang down a bit for the sake.of clear communication. As for spelling, "my fingers cannot spell" so I cannot say too much. I enjoy the site a lot. ...J.D.

    Ah but which language?

About 1,000 AD (The Beowulf written as England was unified)
    Hwæt. We Gardena in geardagum,
    þeodcyninga, þrym gefrunon,
    hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon.
    Oft Scyld Scefing sceaþena þreatum,

(Lo, praise of the prowess of people-kings
of spear-armed Danes, in days long sped,
we have heard, and what honor the athelings won!
Oft Scyld the Scefing from squadroned foes,)

    About 1600 AD (Shakespeare)

So shaken as we are, so wan with care,
Find we a time for frighted peace to pant,
And breathe short-winded accents of new broils
To be commenced in strands afar remote.

“Seems like people have a spring in their step because the President was held accountable for his behaviour.”
    The distinctly unspringy Nancy Pelosi

Political arguments are like grabbing the ears of a dog. Not matter which side you take, you are bound to get bit. I will stay out of it....J.D.
