hello ,bike wont start and it turns over until the battery is flat as if the side stand is down.i think its the fuel pump but here is a question,if the fuel pump is not working should the bike start if you fill it right up?i.e. the weight of the fuel will push it through allowing the bike to start.the fuel in my tank is lower than I usuallylet it go down to.i cant get to the garage for a few days to buy fuel as its a bit to far for me to walk ,and id like to know sooner if im going to be disappointed when I try this as a solution,ta if you can help
The fuel pump primes the fuel rails so it is injected under pressure (presuming it is an injector bike) If the engine is turning over, it is either: - No spark, so check spark plugs for a spark - No air - check air filter - No Fuel - put your hand over the exhaust as it turns over, if you smell fuel, then fuel supply is not the problem Could just be electrical, check ignition switch and on/off switch for bad wires, are any rubbing and earthing against the frame anywhere If you have taken the tank off recently, check the fuel pipe isn't trapped or kinked Check battery for good connection - positive and negative Check earthing points Must have a good strong battery so you will need to charge it up Would be good to have more details of the bike What bike is it and year
hello,bike is sprint rs 955i 2001 25,000 miles one day it went perfectly and the next day it didn't,it was a bit damp out but I have recently been out in the pouring rain with no problems,the bike is kept in a garage and the only thing I have noticed that I have done differently is that I left the fuel level drop to below where it usually is.i can still see the fuel if I look into the filler cap. once I had a honda Deauville with no fuel pump (it had been removed ) if the fuel level dropped too much the bike would not run,but when you filled it right up it would run again,so I wondered if this might be the same for the Triumph.Anyway,its like I said,one day it ran perfectly and the next day it wont run, it just turns over till the battery runs down,battery is in pretty good nick and I will charge it up today but I don't think its going to be the battery,it sounds nice and strong and the bike has always been a good starter unlike the sprint 900 1994 which needed a very well maintained battery to start,

Check tank breather pipes are clear Check the fuel filter You could drain fuel from the carburettor bowls, and put in some fuel treatment in the tank that would help dissolve any fuel varnish and other mucky stuff in the system
Shane O Yes do check those tank pipes my sprint when I had it was forever blocking those pipes and stopped right away. I used to get a strip of wire and wiggle it till they were clear and away it would go for another year or so. Might sound silly, and a bit basic... Does the bike have a kill switch? Any chance it's been put in the stop position? (don't ask. Been there)
Easy to give a squirt of EasyStart into the trumpet/carb inlet. If it tries to start, then it's fuel. If not - sparks. Could be a dodgy sidestand switch?
hello,bike still wont start .but I may have found the problem and have posted 4 pics in sequence in "my albums" under "fuel prob" PIC 1 shows my fuel pipe hole with metal clip PIC 2 shows the plastic fitting that goes into the hole,it looks like a black rubber may be missing ? see the groove ? PIC 3 shows whatit looked like when I uncovered it,notice how it is not pushed right in PIC 4 SHOWS IT PUSHED RIGHT IN ,but it didn't quite go right in I think,see how that little metal pin is just showing,but it wouldn't go in any further and when I tried to start it it STILL WOULDN'T start,and loads of fuel dripped out,but it did ALMOST START......my QUESTION is anything missing in these photos that may tell what is wrong ,do I need a new part,if so what is it called THANKS for all earlier help...TA
Oh yeah, and when this happens, don't you feel smart after you figure it out! Been there done that too.
like the poor b*stard who was on my Eurotunnel train over the summe ron his brand new Ducati. Wouldn't start, so I got off and asked if he needed help - yup, kill switch on! By the way, I was told by my bike instructor about 30 years ago to never switch off using the kill switch, but to always use the key. Never known why.

looking at the diagram I cant see the metal clip that is on the FEMALE part of the fuel pipe connector that goes into the fuel pump.It has a METAL CLIP on it with a small metal PIN .It looks as if it is designed to lock on to something on the MALE part of the fuel pipe end fitting.But there is nothing on my plastic part that it could locate onto.It is as if a bit on mine is missing .Anyone got a sprint rs955i 2001 with a part on it like mine?I am not even sure what its called so am having a job looking it up.My brother hates fuel injected bikes and now I know why,if I kept my old carb triumph I wouldn't be walking everywhere like I am now.P.S.I put pics in my album but don't how to get them here,I need a computer course as well
I looked on google and got some pics on there from triumph rat net which show a bit more detail,and the connectors are called 'fuel line couplers.' I haven't seen this type of fitting before but it helps when looking for pictures if you know what they are called.I am guessing that for some reason mine are not locking together ,maybe due to that metal clip on the female part
