After riding for the past two years with an entry level helmet I finally took the plunge and went for a top level lid. It’s an Arai DTX, not their top of the line but light years above anything I’ve ever owned. The graphic and paint might be over the top for some but I like it. Didn’t hurt that it originally retailed for $750 but I managed to get it for $399 due to an updated model coming out in 2020. It is DOT and Snell rated, and I think the box weighed more than it does! Can’t wait to try it out but right now the temps are well below freezing.
That's a terrific helmet, OsteKuste! Please post a review when you've ridden in it a bit. I've never owned an Arai but have always heard great things and been quite curious about them. What were ou riding in previously?? Terrific graphic on your new helmet too.
Nice looking lid there mate, but make sure you use earplugs. Arais are pretty noisy compared to a lot of helmets.
Lovely looking lid mate, flying the flag in Tennesse, love it, I couldn't resist a new lid in the sale either ....
Great helmets both and when you consider the old noggin you only get one chance at protecting it. So cheap at any price. Regards Joe.
I was wearing a $150 lower end helmet before, honestly can’t remember the brand this morning. It must weigh twice what this new Arai does, and it is pretty loud. Riding a bike with a lower riding position I always had the helmet shell in the way of my vision when looking up the road, so I’d always crane my neck up without realizing it. After a long ride I’d end up with my neck and shoulders killing me. This new lid eliminates all that. I’ll update as soon as I can get out on the road.
I considered a Shoei, but ultimately the Arai fit better. I couldn’t pass up this one with the flag on it either. Someone has to represent civilization in this land of barbarians!
OsteKuste O'h mate its a great helmet. But you got the wrong bloody flag for Tennessee surly. Regards Joe.
Of the two 'major' brands, I think you either have a Shoei or Arai (other brands are available) shaped head, I have tried Arai but prefer the fit of Shoei, I have never found an AGV that I found comfortable so haven't tried one on the road.
Great skid lid you have there! I also wear this brand and love it! A bit noisy, but it's still first rate . Your first line of defense!
Me too Billy. Square head, round hole or summat like that with the Arai's. Shoei and Schuberth fit me perfectly. Loving your new kid btw.
Used to have a Arai Giga many years ago in Kawasaki Green when I had a Kwaka zx7r. One of best helmets I have had and when you opened the air vents in the visor you could feel the cool air flowing through. In those days they didn`t have all the plastic bits added to the outside so a very quite helmet
Loved my Arai's, but the new designs ment I was kissing the chinbar !!! That and the fact they refuse to fit a drop down sunvisor, do I went Shoei this time. Plus find the Shoei quieter.
Both very nice. Will have to get a top lid one day. I shop around and get 4 star lids at bargain prices at the moment. Comfortable and safe, but not as perfect a fit. Current side vents work much better than previous front vents.
