I’ve had my 04 T100 one season and LOVE it. But I need more top end for travel. I’ve tested the line and speed twin seems right. It’s got abundant power, but still light nimble and fun. I’m slightly concerned long range comfort but mostly interested in any regrets or words of wisdom from the group before I commit. 120 is probably the safer choice but kinda tame... Thanks for your help!
I love my speed twin, and would highly recommend it. Longest stretch on the seat is about 2 hrs straight, but had zero complaints.
Before my Speed Twin, I was the owner of a 17 Bonneville T120 Black, and I can say, I 've no regrets, the Speed Twin is a fantastic bike, more powerful, better agility , better brakes , I love it !
Thank you all for your feedback, This really is a great community. Yes, I tested the speed twin, Bobber, and T120. That only does so much, but your feedback and comments elsewhere on the forum give me comfort. My ‘04 is going to be hard to let go. Oddly, the speed twin is more practical and hopefully no less fun.
I had a speed twin for the day when my bike was in for service Absolutely brilliant I’d have one in a heartbeat
Su n me have one each after trading down from a street triple and a speed triple, even more fun that both our old bikes even if they have bit slower top end
I own both a 2018 T120 and a 2019 Speed Twin. The T120 is like a vintage precision machine tool of your dad’s. Durable, solid, feels built for life. It’s a joy to run through the gears and feel that sweet engine pull you up and down the rev range. It’s genius for two-up riding and thus of the dozen or so bikes I’ve owned over the years it is my wife’s favorite. The Speed Twin is the sports car version of the T120. It feels up on its toes, minimal, essential. The gearbox is snickety snick and in Sport mode the acceleration is hilarious. During my extended test ride I forgot about the modes and was riding around in Road for about half an hour. Then I switched to Sport and that sealed the deal. I went back to the dealer and signed papers. I’ve ridden the Thruxton a couple of times, but for some reason didn’t get on with it. The Speed Twin fits me like a favorite set of trainers. If the T120 Bonneville was shoes it would be your favorite lace-up boots, polished to a perfect shiny finish.
It’s done. Deal is set. I’ll sign the papers today. Dealer will install a few trinkets, heated grips, and the motone x pipe. Now the hard part - waiting until spring to ride it!
I had one as a courtesy bike the other day, it was absolutely stonking. Absolutely loved everything about it.
Hi, I'm reading at your post since i'm also wanting to buy a speed twin, i tried it but I was really disapointed with the front fork. I'm riding a xsr900 and i'm 95kg. I tried the speedtwin and i felt a bit like a bycicle, i didnt feel confortable if i took speed during turn. Was stressful on arms. I tried the bmw ninet straight after and i felt the big contrast with speed twin in term of control on road. Is there something to do on forks during testing ? I will re-test the motorbike since i love the look. Thanks everyone
