Bought battery charger and battery was flat as a pancake so it's not charging. Put it in charged and bam worked fine and it's working probably for a few days. Going into shop Wed so guess it might be the stator. Alternator

Meant to say I noticed when I start the bike if I take off hard with high revs it's a bitch to get into 2nd but maybe warming it or churning the oil around makes it a little better.

Simple test for stator - disconnect, set meter to read resistance (ohms) and measure between any ONE of the three terminals (going back into stator) and engine ground - this should be 'open' (infinite ohms) - if you get 'short' (zero ohms) then stator is toast.

*with meter on resistance setting, with probes unconnected to anything, it probably reads something like 1999 or similar; when you touch probes together it will read zero (or close to zero) - these are what you should read for 'open' or 'short' respectively.

So was in shop again today and they cleaned the regulator and its charging better BUT he said the bike is overheating and the fan is coming on permanently so its draining the battery faster and I will need to take it to a Triump shop that has better diagnostics as all there tests came up fine. He said it it could be a temperature issue, thermostat valve, my ears were melting as he said i could burn out the heads and I lost concentration. Also got a clutch oil leaking which is dripping onto the exhaust which is the bad smell I have been smelling lately. So I am in Richmond London , can anyone recommend a great place to finally nail this issue. Also mentioned the seller put some weird liquid in the coolant so he must have known about the issue.

to be honest I thought it was a simple regulator clean, renew and check the alternator but that was all checked and they advised me to visit a Triump proper shop to diagnose why the fan comes on after a min, also said there was some connector wire that was disconnected. Now looking for decent place, Jack Lilly has a 1st date of Aug 15 so need somewhere sooner.

always about 5/6 after a few mins, never any higher than 7, fan comes on pretty much straight away, gonna call these london guys Trimoto or japandgerman bikes near me, will pop down and take some photos

I wonder if the fan cut on threshold temp has been set artificially low, can be identified using TuneEcu
At 5 bars fan should not come on, at 6 (or high 6 just before 7) fan should kick in

Another possibility is if the coolant used was Evans Waterless coolant which actually runs hotter as it is removing more heat from the engine block to the radiator = cooler engine but hotter radiator

Did the garage replace the coolant? I personally use Castrol Motorcycle 'blue' coolant, if it wasn't replaced, give the radiator a good flush through, pull off the lowest coolant hose where it attaches at the lowest point, undo the small drain plug at the front of cylinder 1 (8mm bolt) this releases the vacuum holding coolant at the top of the cylinder.

Put a hose to the radiator a fill up and flush through the system, do the same for the expansion tank.

Run it to temp with just water, drain and then fill with new coolant. If you can, raise the front wheel so the radiator is high up, above expansion tank, squeeze the hoses as it is topped up, and switch engine on so it ticks over, top up as the coolant fills the system and air is expelled - get out as much air as possible!

    Good luck

Does fan run as soon as the ignition is turned on?
That will determine whether a true temperature induced issue or an electrical control failure.
If it does not come on right away (when bike is cold) then you probably have a 'real' temperature issue.

Check the cooling fan relay to see if it is possibly stuck on.
You could a temporary swap with one of the other two 4-pin relays (Fuel Pump or EMS relays) to see if it is the relay, or the drive signal from the ECU.
(the ECU tells the relay to turn or not)

The Fan Relay is the one whose socket has a Black/Yellow as one of the wires

There is actually a Utility in TuneECU which makes it easy to check the fan functionality (as well as the actual temperature in degrees)

Had clutch cover gaskets changed, New temp switch, radiator off and totally cleaned, flushed with New coolant, new oil and been running better although I had the dam jam from 1st to 2nd gear. Seems to be fine in the morning so wondering if I need to let the engine turn over a bit or start real slow. Might fully charge the battery again anyway but this 1st to 2nd has messed me up in front of traffic, might try starting in 2nd.

If you still have a hot start or slow start problem after all this.
My money is on the starter brushplate failing to earth.
I posted a fix a few days ago.
My issue is over , what a bloody drama.

Think I have nailed it, it seems blipping the throttle up allows me out of 1st giving maybe 1 or 2k revs, need to check as tried it a few times today and worked. So not sure what the overall issue is but I can deal with that.
