    Hi All,

I went and checked out a 2017 street twin this afternoon and all was seemingly fine with the bike minus a small 2-3 inch oil ‘puddle’ that I could see built up under the bike where it is frequently parked. Everything else on the bike was fine, but this leak has me worried.

I asked the owner if he knew what it was from and he stated something along the lines of “the Triunph dealer noted that a screw rattled off, and is causing a minor oil leak. It’s nothing to worry about, and could be fixed by simply replacing the screw.”

The screw he is referring to is shown in my photo attached.

Does anyone know if this is a valid reason for a minor oil leak? Should a small oil puddle under the bike be enough to scare me off?

As someone who wants a Triumph but truthfully has no mechanical experience, any insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Casey

    Fuck off you nosy cunt
Walk away from it. Any "simply could be fixed by" that hasn't simply been fixed rings alarm bells.

Any owner who cared for his bike would have sorted this leak. Any responsible seller would have sorted it out before showing the bike, if it was just a matter of a screw.

Seems this guy is none. Walk away, but if you are too smitten, speak to the dealer servicing team he is referring to, get a full health report and also a quote for mending the leak. You are in a better position to make a decision then.

One man’s threat is another man’s opportunity. The bike appears to have lost part #PFKL3070827 a $10.58 bung........

Now it may suggest a number of things about owner ignorance, want of maintenance etc., but it could equally just be a lost bung and worth much more than $10 off the price........

I would want to know a bit more, especially if the bike is otherwise in good shape.

If it's that simple why isn't it fixed? Walk away. Owner has a crap attitude regardless.

Welcome to the family. That screw is no problem ask the dealer to fit a new screw and make sure the threads are good. It is only a blanking plug and the oil is coming from the clutch oil splash. And its only minute. But every one is right a good dealer would replace it as it would only cost them pennies.
    Regards
    Joe.
