Hi guys As I said earlier on we made a profit of £107 from the beer and barbecue sales which I forwarded to the air ambulance and received this today Thanks to all and pleased to say I managed to sell the other half a keg I didn’t charge for so result too !
Superb! Well done to all who attended the GMU and contributed. I really wish I could have made it; maybe next year.
That’s what I thought too but a good few years back me and 3 other guys did the national 3 peaks (when my knees worked and I wasn’t a big fat b*****d) We raised several thousand due to good sponsors and travelling with the lady to present the cheque she assured me they want to remain independent of central funding and simply work with the medical professionals. Amazing but hats off to them !
Got to be honest mate, I thought the same until I met a biker and former trustee of our local air ambulance (Hampshire & Isle of Wight) at a local fund raiser for them. He said that Government funding would bring more regulations, more red tape, silly health and safety rules and would probably be cut 2 years after it was introduced. He's convinced it's better off as it is. He reckons Hampshire have always a pot of at least £11 million at any one time as it is. Having said that, their helicopter was stored for free in a hanger at Thruxton Circuit courtesy of the owners. They gave them a bigger hanger when needed and kitted it all out for free. However, the air ambulance service insisted on having separate insurance rather than relying on Thruxton's and so they now have to lease the building for £32000 per year and pay extra insurance on top. Work that one out!
