Really on a new modern bike, if this is the case I cannot believe this was not picked up during road testing. And if it is the case, triumph are in for a massive recall bill. Mine is in the deakers this week for replacement disks and pads, I will have a word with the service guy's for their view and report back.....
Triumph probably do know about it already, I think it's inherent in the design of modern brake discs. I would imagine the only way of getting round the problem would be to use ventilated discs like you get on many cars but then they would be much thicker and heavier so the current disc design is likely considered the lesser of two evils.
You may well be correct, time will tell if more and more owners have the same problem.... I still don’t think they would have released the bikes if they had known.
I've got a speed twin and the front brakes squeal a bit but only at low speeds, can't say it particularly bothers me but given previous posts I will have a closer look at discs.
I am thinking the sqeel is from the axles and the hub. I want to disassemble my hub, swing-arm and dog-bones and grease em all, also the front axle. I recon they are all very dry. If not now, then defiantly this winter.
As long as my bike is in warranty the dealer can sort it out. Bike is in tomorrow morning, we will see if they fix the problem with the new disc etc or whether the problem returns.
Hi Wessa, how are you getting on with your new disc's etc, my bike (Speed Twin, like you) has gradually got worse and is getting to the stage where it is starting to bother me now!!! Interested to hear your current findings. I actually took my bike in for some other warranty work last week but stupidly, I completely forgot to mention the brake squeal!!!!! by the way the braking performance itself is still good, just the noise that's my problem.
Spoke to Wezza about this at the racing last weekend, he reckons all is well since they replaced discs & pads under warranty.
Hi All, had mine checked as well and they replaced the lot. Not even a tiny squeal since. Meant to post, sorry gents...
I've also been suffering from worsening brake squeal over the last 500 or so miles (bike now has 1200 on it) . I removed the pads and applied some Copperslip on the back and to the leading edges of the pad backing plates and now my brakes are totally silent. Haven't put a dial guage on my discs yet but now the only pulsing through the brake lever is when the ABS cuts in, previously the squealing was accompanied by a high frequency vibration through the lever.
Yep as Billy says all is well. They replaced everything, discs, pads etc. I went for a run yesterday and up until now no squealing.
Dealer did this the first time I had problems with the squealing. It worked for a few hundred miles before it started squealing again, hence the replacing of the discs etc... Be interesting to see if your problems return?
took mine in yesterday. dealer confirmed disc is warped and took a video. gonna be fixed under warranty so all good. must have been a dodgy batch !
Not a dodgy batch its a well known problem has been for years. My 2011 speed triple are warped at 4800 miles. this is because Triumph Discs are crap.when they put new ones in take them off and sell them and by some Brembo discs. they will put new onse on and they will only go again.I get my bike back tomorrow they say they have fixed mine. This will be utter bull shit. i will take the bike out tomorrow when i get it back and i am 99.9% the front will start to judder when they are warmed up. then i am putting Brembos on and will then get the Solicitors involved. If the Triumph dealer will not fix a known problem. then i have no choice.
