Tyre Suggestion For Daytona 955i

    Unpluggable puncture means new tyre time.

    I have Michelin PR3 on there now and have always used sport touring tyres on it, even though its a sportsbike.

    Since I had my Tiger Sport however, the Daytona is a Sunday toy and doesn't do much mileage, never sees a wet road.

    So I could go for a sports tyre, but wouldn't want anything so extreme it struggled to warm up on the road, I don't do track days on it.

    Whatever I go for it needs to come 190/55 profile rear sizes, I prefer that to a 190/50

    Any ideas? Thanks

    I would stick a 180 on it. Turns in much quicker than the 190. Triumph only went to the 190 back in the day for design over function.

    Thanks, but it has a 6 inch rim, not a 5.5, so while you could fit a 180 you'd be stretching the tyre and creating an even flatter profile

    Michelin RS is a brilliant tyre. Had them on the Tuono, great in the dry, and a lot better in the rain / damp than you'd expect looking at the tread. I was amazed how stable they felt on a greasy damp road.

    Only reason I'm on PR5 now, is the Tuono ruined a rear in 1500 miles, but front did 6000 miles !!!

    Yes Colin you're quite right. But in practise I remember mine handling so much sweeter with a quality 180 fitted.

    I’ve put Dunlop Qualifiers on my Daytona, a great all round tyre and they were only £125 a pair. :grinning:

    if you are only going to be using the bike on the road, do you really need a sports tyre as it is not like you are going to be able to get the max out of it on the road. If the old tyres were lacking grip I could understand it
    just my 10p worth :)

    My motivation is safety, if I can have more grip at no extra cost, why not?

    Never found anything lacking with the grip on a good dual compound sports touring tyre, but is having a softer compound all the way round a bad thing? You never know when you might need to haul on the anchors, or quickly change direction.

    You are correct that I dont need a sports tyre, but I have a Tiger Sport shod with RoadTec 01's which does all the long distance and wet weather work. The Daytona is a sunny Sunday toy and I dont need lots of wet grip, I dont need to worry about squaring off, and I'm not doing enough mileage on this bike to worry about how often I change the tyre, whatever I get will last me 4 years.

    Despite the puncture, my current PR3 are due for replacement anyway, just because of the age of the rubber, and they are only half worn.

    Which is why I'm asking if there's something in between your track day tyre which wont warm up properly on the road, and your sports touring tyre, which I don't need.

    They look good, thanks. Nice soft compound tyre but still have a sensible tread pattern. While I dont need lots of wet grip, I dont want tyres that are practically slicks either, I could get caught in an unexpected summer shower.

    On my daily Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2, I get between 4000 miles to 7000 miles on the rear, 12000 on the front. Yes, I live in Southern California, it does rain sometimes and drainage isn't the greatest on most roads, I still ride. These act great, I ride at night and some years it has dipped into the low 30°s. Dont like the 3s because they cup in the front. Now running the Angel ST in the rear, had it on the front but it cupped. I have an Angel GT in the front now. The rear I got 8000 miles before changing. The front I now have 9000 miles and it has half the tread left.
    The Daytona 955i has Metzeler Sportec M7RR 190/55 rear, M5 for now on the front. The bike came with Metzlers stock, they looked good, but NO, not riding a bike with 20 year old tires. They are very predictable so far.
