She was in panto in Mansfield years ago. That was the only year, I didn't actually mind having to go to a panto Those thigh's 'n boots
Back to the topic- Just spent this week up country on A90 and A9. Loads of average speed scamera's. So I had my Google map on, showing the GPS speed of 70, which was 75 on the car Speedo. Hope to feck I'm alright!!! Sure I could have been sat at 80, but just unsure of the threshold for persicution! I know the 30 limit outside my house, is above 35. (10% + 2mph), not sure this applies at 70mph? Could I have sat at 78mph on the GPS?
Surely by warning people about a camera, you are making them think about their speed and slow down - exactly the reason they say the cameras are there for. The only possible reason for it being 'against the law' would be because it affects the revenue stream the cameras generate - exactly the thing they claim the cameras aren't there for!
My Speedo showed 75. My sat-nav showed 70. According to the speed signs my sat-nav is spot on. So I'm hoping it's correct. We'll find out on two weeks time
I would say you have no worries up here its a 10% plus 2 at all limits, forget about it you were well within threshold, only possible problem is that the limit does vary a bit over the length of the A9 where it changes from dual to single carriageway and vice versa but I am sure you would have noticed that.
Only did the dual bits , so I'm thinking I'll be safe. Other 'quick' drivers were cruising at similar speeds, got in a little convoy at one point, all of us doing 70mph. So my guess they were regularly on the road, so that was a safe cruising speed. Nowhere near 79 as the guidelines suggest, but wasn't willing to risk it. They actually make the road less safe, I spent more time watching my speed than the road !!!! Back on M74 south, I wasn't going any quicker, but I was able to accelerate away from other traffic to find a nice space to sit in, and cruise at the similar speeds. Just can't do that on the A9 / A90
Believe it or not, Hampshire's finest are currently trialling "noise cameras " along the A32 and A272. These are probably two of the most popular biking roads down here and Loomies cafe is virtually at their crossroads. Local residents have been campaigning against noise and speeding bikers with the backing of the local Tory MP. As a result, plod has targeted the area recently pulling loads if bikers for illegal plates, dark visors and loud pipes. These new camera sensors can apparently detect illegally loud car or bike exhausts and will operate like a speed camera. Coming to a road near you soon!
It's been roughly about 80 years since it's been against the law to warn others about speed traps etc. Years ago the AA, RAC would always wave at a member of their club(that's one reason of grill badges)to warn them a copper was along the next bit of road. This is when the law came into force. The AA, RAC was taken to court for aiding and abetting and heavily fined. Since then it has been illegal to warn other drivers about speed checks or stops the police may be performing.
If I pass a speed camera in my truck I always flash at other drivers to warn them, but I don't if they are flash twats driving M series BMWs and the like.
Going up the m40 the other day I spotted an estate car parked up on a bridge going over it, rear passenger window open, sure enough when I got close enough there was a radar gun pointing out of it. A guy I was working with pulled into some motorway services at about 9pm and was confronted by police checking tyres and alcohol. They had a couple of tow trucks there too
I think they have this fixed - all things that might impact the speed accuracy (altitude, number of satellites being used, etc) should be taken into account. Funny thing though. When they developed the first laser gyroscopes they had bizarre readings on all axis. Even thought the damn thing was sitting motionless on a bench... They thought it was broken until some bright spark realised it was measuring the rotation of the earth, it’s orbit around the sun, suns orbit round the galaxy, universal expansion, etc... Unless u are a flat earther in which case it’s just broken and not measuring any of that stuff.
Just yesterday I turned left at a junction , then a about a 150 yard's up the road a car pulled out in front of me, I gave him the finger then I realised my indicator was still going, I felt like a twat the rest of the day.
Good advice Jez, I'm going to do that from now on, because I can't always see the green light flashing on a bright sunny day.
More speed camera's going up along the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel. https://www.shieldsgazette.com/news...3vB-C9FUoGm4i9NToyLWfneiu3l_nXSXLANkFFH45O30Q
You can if you mod it like I have on my America ! Put LED globe in place of the incandescent one !! I've replaced all but the globe's in my indicators with LED's. As I have clear lenses on the indicators and orange coloured globe's inside.
Attended a speed awareness course only this morning. Wasn't patronising at all thankfully. I actually learned a couple of things which was good. Got done for 70 in a 60 on the new Newtown bypass Wales. Didn't even know id been done until it came through. As I use it quite regularly I kept checking and sure enough, found him the next week sitting in the layby on an uphill left hander, no chance of seeing him where he hides. I think I was overtaking a truck when he got me hence why I didn't see him. Wont be making that mistake again up that road. So if you use that road be aware of the layby's at each end on the uphill left handers.
