I open this question to the educated collective that is the Triumph Forum. During certain times of the riding season in the UK I suffer with flies inside my helmet. My helmet is de-sanitised in an attempt to stop this happening. When the flies are near my mouth and nostrils I flip the visor up in the hope the airflow will remove the little critters. Do others suffer? Is there a cure? Serious and humorous reply will be welcome.
that's a new one on me, i remember once a wasp got inside my lid while I was riding..i stopped pretty quick
I thought about putting it in the freezer but my misses keeps filling it with food (that's the freezer not my helmet).
folliclly challenged and clean shaven so no grooming products used. Helmet deodorised on a regular basis.
Thank the living bejeebers you said "on" not "up". Bleeeuuuch. So, main question here (now I have lobotomised the previous thought.. Again Bleeeuuuch) has to be, are the flies getting in there while you are riding, or when you're helmet is parked up.? (sheeeit, there's that image again, bleeeuuuch, not that helmet! ) If the former, you need a better fitting helmet, or some way of filling the gap... If the latter, almond oil and put it in a placcy bag. Flies don't like the smell of almonds for some reason.
Incidenturalilly, I used to work permanent nights, coming home one autumn morning, about 4am, it was a bit misty, before pin lock visors, so the visor was cracked open, to stop my specs steaming up. I got hit by a hawk moth, it went SPLATTT and the front of the lid vanished under yellow goo. As did the bottom of my face. Err.. Yukk.
I use my flies for fishing. Just saying.... Edit. NB. Sutton Arms is great if you are after an old trout or two and don't care if you get a few crabs as well so that is one fishing site to avoid.
I have had a moth in my ear. Boy I don't know how the peeps with tinnitus feel but that was murder like a band of drums in my head. Had to rush to the surgery and have it flushed out. Also been stung. AND THAT'S MY STORY SO FAR. Ride Safe Joe.
I was out on Sunday for a blast, with the visor open a smidge, when a large squishy (judging by the mess) insect made it through the gap, but was less lucky with the left frame of my glasses. Half of the insect splashed across the left lense, and half hit my face and splattered up into my eye. It was such a mess, I thought I ridden into a descending seagull poop. Fortunately, I was close to my destination and was able to get washed up. The remnants, such as they were, were clearly insect intestines and other innards.
I got hit by a seagull once on the motorway when I was doing about 80mph Now that hurt....and made a hell of a mess!
I once had a bee get into my helmet , I don't know how , but I took it off in seconds whilst still riding. Went over a round about which had Rose Bushes , missed all the traffic and Roses . The far side of the round about had a two foot drop ( was a down hill run) survived unscathed , on a Honda 500 four cylinder.
