I used to ferret too enjoyed it, Nothing to do with being a snowflake if i needed to kill to get my own food or still liked eating rabbits pheasants and pigeons i would but i dont... so see no point but i dont knock people who do just my personal opinion ...so i dont go around condemning those that do !
If anyone is in any doubt the damage Corvids cause watch this vid ,this was at the height of the GL hash up
Annoyingly work has put a curse on my shooting so far this year.... every club shoot I've been away from home working. Grrr. I want to bring Cyborgbot along to a shoot as well but the timings have just been so wrong. (Don't worry Cyborgbot - it WILL happen!) I tend to put holes in bits of paper only these days. Anything out to 1000 yards is fair game!
@sam triple yes you are right to a point but there are unfortunately the few who take trophy hunting etc to excess, a bit like a sportsbike rider getting nicked at 160. Yes lets ban motorcycles as they are an obnoxious bunch!!!!!
I think a day at the range is a bit different for me. Includes body armor, full kit, and several hundred rounds for my rifle and sidearm. A full day of running, moving and shooting with quite a few pounds of gear and I’m pretty well beat.
My days of doing that kind of thing are LONG behind me. Well done sir, and thank you for your service.
I too, as you, saw that video some time ago and was rooting for the lion. What a bunch of incompetent fools, that was not a humane killing in anybody's book
I do not shoot much these days , rough shooting was always a favourite of mine ,as said earlier loved to see the dogs (spaniels) working and enjoying the day ,did,nt matter if I unloaded or not , I do not wish any ill on people who are coming up and experiencing this pastime, if done legally Vegetarian another name for bad hunter..
I can relate to that. I realised I was getting more fun beating with the dog than blazing away so sold all my guns. Mind you, it was not remotely as strenuous as assaulting up hill through gorse and bracken with a GPMG and a couple of belts of ammunition.
Used to get some hand me down guns and ammo (USA) magazines. Thought they were a good read and really opened your eyes in contrast to the generally held UK views.
I was a Firearms Enquiries Officer when they changed the licensing laws in Northern Ireland. We disposed of hundreds of weapons in a very short period of time, including a Marlon Goose Gun (a massive beastie - it would take a real man's man to fire it) and a 1917 Luger (still a lovely gun!). The original British owner of the Luger (long deceased) had returned from war with an arsenal of guns and even hand grenades, which his wife thought should be safely disposed of!
One of my rifles is a lovely SMLE. Built in 1917 and still as accurate now as when it was new! Edit: Photos attached
In general, I'm agin shooting wildlife of any sort. But there is an outbreak of squirrel pox in southwest Scotland, which is killing the red squirrels (95% fatal). That can only mean grey squirrels have made it here. I think I'd support shooting greys that try coming over the border, in order to preserve our reds (I'm not a squirrel racist, but...). I used to be a good competition shot in my youth with a .22 Martini (maybe a BSA like this https://rifleman.org.uk/BSA_Martini_International_Mks.I_&_ II.html). I was good enough to win cuddly toys for my girlfriends at the fair - that seemed to me to be the best use for my talent as a marksman.
Your not wrong had one grey trying to raid a nesting box we have in garden ,had blue tits nesting it was trying to get the eggs or young in there THEY WILL take the lot parents as well
Was a decent target shooter and loved shooting vermin and problem birds, especially Minars (similar to crows) which attached my dogs and children. Same as many on here, biking has occupied the time I spent shooting. Still a hunter gatherer
