In Australia they have special camera equipment that can via the many spectrum's of light detect defective vehicle emissions ! I believe mainly in infra red and / or ultra violet. NSW and Victoria are the msma users, department of environmental protection, they also use directional microphones to pickup "excessively noisy" vehicles.
Dept of Environment officer's direct "Police" to stop vehicles that fail to pass the sensors with faulty exhaust gas emissions and noise control.

You hit the nail right on the head. Big money spinner. They do it because they can and they get away with it. Other Countries like America France bring the country to an almost stop at these infringements. We talk about it.

    Joe.

FFS! - An anti-social government detection system, or corrupt politician sensors would be of better service to the country.

Does this mean 90% of Harley riders and rice rockets are going to have serious problems? Or is it going to be like mot’s and go by what a bike should sound like not by a blanket decibel reading

Not sure I agree, surely live and let live used to be a saying but seems to be lost these days.
Too many snowflakes and do gooders.

I live a few miles from Squires and on a summer evening quite enjoy the various bikes soundtracks on one particular feed road.
    Waaar waaaaar waaaaar

edit, I'll make @BB3Lions an exception as that is clearly excessively loud o_O

In the last 3 years we have had a speedway and 3 pubs closed due to excessive noise. All 3 had been in place for 50+ years with the same noise levels at appropriate operating time (night).
Apartments are built around them and then newly arrivals complain of the noise??? WTF
Too many people think their opinion is more important than historical value.

The same thing happened near where I live, an outdoor full bore shooting range, established before the last war, was closed because they built a housing estate near it, then the residents complained about the gunfire noise, FFS!

The simple answer is, if you have a loud exhaust don’t ride residential areas or anywhere in second gear at 10,000 revs, well it’s too late for that we are going to suffer the result of those numpties! My concern with these cameras is if you get overtaken by a vehicle with a loud exhaust where there is a camera, how do they know who was making the noise? Guilty til proven innocent is going to be on the cards. On a lighter note I’d like to see the result of the annual Surrey Harley owners ride out. 100 plus Harleys all at once are going to burn out the cameras

It happens with airfields (both military and civilian) and racetracks everywhere, people move in then start complaining about the noise that has been there for decades prior to their house purchase :mad:

I live on a popular route and frankly as a biker the middleweight screamers and Harley thumpers are a total PITA. Many of the former behave like accidents looking for somewhere to happen. They poison the well we all enjoy......

Just like houses and flats around Heathrow and Gatwick. When people move to these areas they know about the noise from the planes taking off and landing but they still buy a property there. Once settled in they start moaning and complaining about the noise. Sorry, moaners, no one made you buy a home there and you knew about the noise before you moved in. Tough, your choice. Also, the airports were probably there before your property was even built. If you want a dead silent place you have a few choices either die or buy an island miles away from anything. These moaners really piss me off.
    P.s
I lived in Staines for a couple of years right under the fight path. After a few weeks, i got used to the planes and noise. What am saying is if there is a constant noise, you get used to it after a while.
All vehicles make some sort of noise even electric bikes and cars, it's life live with it. As a biker, i keep standard cans fitted. 1. don't like to piss people off. 2. Can't be bothered to change them. 3. I wouldn't like to put people off bikers by driving through their villages in 1st gear with a droning noise from an open can. Ats all about respect. But campaigners and government ministers go too far sometimes, well most of the time. What's next ban white noise and farting?

    Hi,

There is much fair comment here...I work in development and you get complaints when Houses are built near golf courses, because it’s meant to be desirable, and then they start complaining about the golf club, the ball is coming in the gardens, it’s the same with parks it’s the same even with farms , we have bought a place near a farm that has cows...and all you can hear is cows all morning, is that the cows fault or mine!?
So I live near a road...erm there will be cars, bikes, noisy kids walking by, house parties...this is about being reasonable...in English law
The question noises what’s the expectation of a reasonable man and a reasonable man doesn’t expect to hear a motorbike revving its nuts off at six in the morning, or when there are children nearby or elderly people including the traffic lights and so on and it is totally different to put a blanket coverage on different roads because someone is whingeing The question always is what’s the expectation of a reasonable man and a reasonable man doesn’t expect to hear a motorbike revving its nuts off at six in the morning, or when there are children nearby or elderly people and including at traffic lights and so on. it is then totally different to put a blanket coverage on different roads because someone is whingeing, because the when the whinger leaves do they take the camera out?! I think not.
Perhaps bikers need to keep educating each other...and try weed out knobs! But then...if you apply that everywhere or anything, we would be very busy or...the police!!

There has recently been a change in the law and it is now down to the developers to mitigate the noise from existing premises, provided the venue has taken reasonable steps to mitigate its noise levels.

This recently worked in favour of Santa Pod - one of those new-fangled garden villages had been proposed for nearby, realised that the cost of mitigating the noise from top fuel dragsters would way outweigh any financial gain fron the development.
Ironically, many of the local villagers who have been complaining for years about the noise now say that it's a small price to pay to stop their villages being swallowed up by new houses!

I live in a village which has an airfield where military jets operate. Unfortunately it hasn’t stopped developers building 1200 new houses :worried: I wonder how many of the new residents will start complaining about the noise?
