Just had my 2018MY S back from it's 500 Mile service and note that the dealer has added a cable-tie bridging the 2 ends of the locking circlip (?) on the right hand rear wheel nut - has there been an issue with this coming loose? Does it really need a cable-tie? I'll definitely be getting a rear wheel finisher if so - doesn't look very professional!

With 146nm of torque I wouldn’t expect the nut to come loose, nor have I heard of a clip coming off.

Mine's been like that since I got a new S3 in 2007. The clips are supposed to be replaced I believe and can be a little loose. The cable tie keeps the clip in place.
Of course as mentioned 146nm is unlikely to come off !!

As a safety precaution I lockwired mine before my trips abroad but since I did the hub bearings and had a new rear tyre I haven’t bothered.

I'm glad they paid attention to it but if it's an issue I would have thought Triumph would change the clip.
Ah well, I wanted the rear wheel finisher anyway; just the excuse I need :)

I have the cable tie on my clip too, put it on myself
It is useful to tell at a glance if the clip/nut has been tampered with or loosening - a bit like using nail polish on torqued nuts/bolts to see if they are loosening

I guess it just gives that extra level of peace of mind

FWIW belt & braces IMO, had three different Triumphs with single siders and covered over 100,000mls - nothing's fallen off yet! :)
(but can't do any harm if it helps you sleep at night)
More important to make sure the Belleville washer is fitted the correct way round

And I always fit the clip this way round (if the hooky bit gets caught on anything then rotation of the wheel closes up the clip, not opens up)

....But then even the workshop manual is contradictory.

    ......

World of triumph has the red conical spacer on offer occasionally,I got mine for under a tenner last time it finishes off wheel nicely,I also had cable tie over clip when I bought bike form raceways dealership,I removed it to get tyre repaired and put new spacer on but now I think I will put another back on.

I have never known one come loose however some techs like to do it. Cost is very little but piece of mind for them for safety.
