Having owned my 2016 America for 2-3 weeks, I’ve removed the SAI, Lambda sensors, air box snorkel & modified a Triumph map using TuneEcu. She’s now running sweet as you like, however, despite fitting a pair of Hagon rear shocks, (slight improvement over stock) & the tyre pressures being 30f & 42r as recommended, the ride on anything other than a very smooth surface is extremely harsh & choppy, every little bump almost rattles my fillings out. Is this just how the America is? I’ve never owned a bike with such a firm ride.
Bobbob Did you tell Hagon what you wanted. I take it you have adjusted the shocks to suit. And new shocks may take a fair few miles to settle in. Regards Joe.
Hi Joe, yes, I ordered them online & gave them my weight (& they didn’t laugh ). I probably done 150 miles or so on them, & they are on the softest setting. I just noticed when out for a ride today that poor road surfaces are quite hard work. I expected the opposite really, assuming it would have quite a soft ride.
Bobbob Worth talking to Hagon. See if they can throw some light on the issue. You may need to go progressive. Regards Joe.
Cheers Joe, I’ll give it a go, but it was a firm ride before I put the Hagons on, that’s really why I got them, thinking they would improve the ride. They have probably helped a little, certainly not made it worse, perhaps it’s just how the America is?
What tyres have you got @Bobbob If it’s metzellers get shot of them cos they’re shite Replace them with Avon’s I would also try stiffening up the suspension a bit this might actually give a better ride
Bobbob Another good bit of advice from dilligaf. But talk to Hagon they will help and are very proud with their products. Regards Joe.
Yeah Dilligaf, Metzelers ME 880 Marathon. There’s the correct psi in both but they feel massively over-inflated. I’m gonna get the wheels powder coated in the winter, so I’ll stick with them for now & put Avon’s on when the wheels have been done, cheers.
Next time you go for a ride pull over and put your bare hands on them They do get warm but they’ll feel like mahogany I couldn’t wait to wear them out on my 09 Speedmaster because they’re that hard and were lasting forever so I changed them well before they were due Avon’s totally transformed the ride
Have a look at Bad Billy’s suspension setup guide too, it’ll be worth it to get a good base setting at least. https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/suspension-setup-a-simple-guide-to-help-you.18373/ For what it’s worth, I’ve seen before that shocks set to the softest setting can feel more harsh than if they were properly set up as they’re not damping as they should.
Agree Dilli, sometimes too soft actually feels too hard (bottoming) try adjusting firmer and give it a (steady) try, you have nowt to lose by trying.
Black ones I had to have a mixture on mine One was a storm and one was a roadrunner but I can’t remember what was front and what was back I think the storm was on the back and if I remember you should be able to get storms front and back for your America
