I am very sad today. Week last Sunday I got conned. I saw an advert for a lovely looking wee daschund pup, no pedigree paperwork, so cheaper than one with full papers. Last one left of a litter of four. So, my lovely wife has always wanted one to replace the one she lost when she was a girl... I arranged to go and have a look. Get there, it's a Polish family. Little girl comes up to me carrying the pup, and boy, does my heart melt. I want to see the parent dogs, but no, they are back in Poland. Here's the paperwork saying its been vaccinated with its first dose, and chipped... Hurry up, we got to go out. So, pressured, I handed over my hard earned, and took the wee guy home. Mrs is over the moon. What a sweetie... Still, we need his next set of vaccinations, so arrange to take him to the vets for the next dose and a check up. Vets... Checks the microchip, it's been done in Poland. Pup is ten weeks old. It's against the law to bring a pup into the country under the age of fifteen weeks! So, vet informs trading standards, environmental health get involved, customs, etc. We are informed that the pup will have to go into quarantine, at a cost of £1400. No way I can afford that Theyll take him and put him into quarantine, and if he gets through sell him on after to recoup the cost. But if he fails... I get the bill. The only other option was euthanasia. Which I am very sad to say was the only option I could afford. I feel absolutely terrible. What was supposed to be a nice gesture has turned into an absolute nightmare. Mrs is really upset, and I feel rotten for doing this. Yes, I know, I'm a fool, idiot, and all those things... But I fell in love with the wee guy as soon as I saw him. Common sense went right out of the window. Speaking with environmental health after (they have visited us at home, I had to give statement, and as much detail as possible about the seller) it turns out that another of the 4 pups has been taken away from its new family. There are 2 more out there. Seems its part of an organised crime ring. A sad tale.. Cautionary though. Don't be a mug and get taken in like I did. Please don't tell me how fucking stupid I am, I already know. If I was in any doubt of that, the vet, environmental health, and the rest have already told me. My only consolation is that the seller is now under observation, they hope to catch whoever is higher up in the ring. It's big business seemingly. That's not making me feel any better really. But, be warned, eh?
Sorry to hear about this Sandy, somethings wrong with the system when it's the innocent party that has to suffer and end up out of pocket
Hi Sandy, I'm very sorry to read this and how you were conned - you were not stupid you were conned by ruthless people - and the tragic outcome. I feel very sad for you both. Maybe when the pain and anger subsides you could visit a dog rescue place and find yourself a little treasure that would benefit from your love ?
So sorry for your troubles, it seems a little unfair that you should have to bear the costs and not the t@ats that sold you the pup.
Terrible news Sandy my heart gans out to you and the missus and of course the wee pup, Your actions are completely understandable and I agree with Ron its bloody amazing where they get the prices from, Just not enough being done to nail the feckers that's doing this.
Thanks to all for your kind thoughts guys. Really appreciate it. Thank you. In all this it's just wee Pip I feel sorry for. None of it was his doing and he's the one who suffered. Still, he had a loving home for a few days. I hate to think what he might have went through before that. Rescue might well be an option in the future. Going to be a whole lot more distrusting of folk in future though, tell you that.
I`m in tears, just been looking at Dave Coopers post "Waiting at the door" and then looking at Big Sandy`s post about being conned ( heart breaking) , there are some horrible bastards out there who don`t give a shit what the do as long as they get some money from it. Love my dog and actually, I think I would kill anyone who would harm her. So sad for you and your wife Big Sandy whether you've had the dog for years or a couple of days it always very hard. Geoff
16 years is an awesome life, I’ve lost a few of my furry friends at very different points of their lives. Hurts massively for a long time but seems to pale massively when you bring your new best friend home.
Me and the wife never got over Wes, so never got another one. Still talk about him and miss him. Itis weird ain't it....
We’ve always had Bullmastiffs before the Bulldogs and lost three in one year, no you never get over losing them because they only ever show you love no matter how you’re feeling, you get home and they jump all over you ( when they weight 12 stone it’s sometimes painful) but always an awesome feeling of friendship. Mans best friend is a quote that is so very apt.
