So it was new chain time over the long weekend. I've decided I actually despise the ST 1050's eccentric adjuster. I know from the bike's history (Well book of receipts!) that this is the third hub the Sprint has had. The most recent one I had fitted. Brand new and fitted by a mechanic who is a bit of Triumph specialist. And yet the blasted thing has basically ceased again. Fortunately, some gently applied elbow grease eased it free, but because the stupid thing is made of such soft metal, any kind of serious force will shred the teeth, and that's having the correctly sized C-Spanner. The other issue I encountered, which caused a minor panic, is that there is no indication of how much adjustment is left, so the first I knew the chain was nearly done, was when it hit the stop!! However, what I DO like is the fact that someone very sensible used a sprocket that can be removed without removing the rear wheel. The front sprocket is one big socking nut, so again it was nice and simple. I'm a competent home-mechanic but my rule is if I have to remove a wheel, a proper mechanic gets the task, so it saved me a few pennies. Six very good quality bolts and the thing is off. Despite being an early '05, none of the bolts have softened, so the chain was off and swapped in a couple of hours effort (Mostly taken up by the ridiculous adjuster!) Rant over, happy riding.
