    Hello,

I’m new to the site although I’ve had my Triumph for 20 years. It’s a ‘99 955i in black with factory sports exhaust & black screen from new, supplied by Boyer Racing. It replaced an identical bike that I got knocked off by a car coming out of a side road on my maiden ride, with just 15 miles on the clock! It’s done only 4000 miles and has not been started for a couple of years, dusty & sitting in the garage. I’ve hooked up a new battery & despiked the Datatool alarm but I’m getting absolutely nothing when I turn the key (literally zero, no lights/clicks etc). Have read about faulty key barrels and earthing problems but not sure where I should start! Any advice/links etc would be muchappreciated.

Hi and welcome.. You will get a better response to your question if you post it in the technical section, not all members come onto the newbies thread

    No pumps or instrument lights.
Start at the connections behind the headlight.
How are you with a multi meter and wiring diagrams?
You need a systematic approach moving along your wires checking that you have power in the cables and how much power?
Start at the battery to next connection, test and move on.
    Check your connections are clean.
It may be as simple as one block connection.

    Fellas,

Thank you all for the quick replies, your welcomes, helpful advice and links.

I’ve checked obvious things like the fuses but now I’m going to start by getting it naked (the bike sadly) and then work through it as suggested. At best I’m a multi-meter improver, which pretty much goes for my mechanical and other bike related abilities, but I want to at least try to get it going before throwing the towel in and taking it to the shop.

    I’ll keep you posted.

    All the best,

    Billy

    Welcome Billy. :)
Have you got wiring diagrams to refer to? It’ll be worth getting hold of a Workshop manual or Haynes manual at least.
I’ll keep an eye out on this thread and try to help you out if possible; I’ll have virtually rebuilt my Daytona soon with all the bodges on it that I’ve had to fix! Lol

    Thanks Freck.

I’ve downloaded a comprehensive 375 page service manual pdf (happy to forward it or send a link if anyone wants it btw) and after initial perusal, typically only the ignition key barrel is not covered! Perhaps that’s for security reasons? Otherwise it has a plethora of detailed technical info including wiring diagrams that I’ll do my best to make sense of

Sounds like you’ve had your fair share of Daytona issues to deal with?!

Oh yes, lots of bodges from the so-called mechanic who I got it off. I’ve currently got the top end stripped for a head gasket change. I’m hoping I can get to ride it a bit this year instead of fixing it so much! ;)
