Hi all Got round to the dealers today to get the wiring rubing on the headstock sorted. I asked them why hadn’t received a recall notice. Turns out the dealer (Destination Triumph) who I bought the bike off second hand hadn’t notified Triumph of change of ownership. Usefully, Gedge of St Leonard’s, Sussex retro notified Triumph of the change so I should get email notifications in the future.
My local dealer said that Triumph UK only put out a few notifications at a time to ease the parts supply and clogging up the dealers schedules.
I can believe that. As the owner of two Ford Focuses (Foci?) I received recall notes for them last year about three months apart for the same issue. In the case of my cars it was a fix for stupid owners who never check their coolant levels so it was not something I was worried about when I only got one letter. It will be interesting to find out though if my T100 fix is lodged before my recall letter is generated, saving Triumph the cost of a stamp . However if I am simply missing off their database I now won't know for sure...
My T120 is one of the bikes that triggered the recall. I had a loooong saga of repeated electrical faults over Christmas which turned out to be caused by the loom being too tight. They found the frayed wiring that was causing the problems, which meant an entire new loom being fitted. Sadly that didn't resolve the issue - eventually it was discovered that the tugging had caused a hairline crack on the PCB inside the Instrument cluster. Massive kudos to Blade Swindon for persevering with the issue 3 months after my warranty expired, making sure I suffered minimal inconvenience and keeping me updated with regular phone calls. All without charging me a penny. Faultless service. Triumph will have wanted to get ahead of any further occurrences as replacing the loom around the headstock involves stripping the whole front end off the bike!
I ended up waiting for mine this past Saturday, pity they didn’t tell me over the phone that it would take less than 30 minutes to fix then I would not have asked someone to follow me all the way there as I arranged to leave it there for the week and would have needed a lift home . It’s is only a plastic trim bracket mounted between the frame and the tank on the left where the clutch cable is running next to the loom. It still seems pretty tight to me (see where I am pointing at with the White cable) The clutch cable is tight as hell against the loom right there and my opinion is that it’s not a proper fix, I guess time will tell.
I'll have to look at mine again as it's not like that. Further look on big screen shows it clearer and im sure mine is the same now.
I'm sure I had this done last year on my street scrambler, its a really minor thing, like a cable clip thingy, I'm not even convinced it was much of a problem.
Hello. I'm in India and the Street Twin is in the recall list. However, I had been facing electrical issues due this clutch cable pressing against the wiring loom. Turn indicators and horn stopped working. Does this recall cover only the headstock tidy or also the wiring loom is to be replaced? My dealer says wiring loom is not under recall. Please help .
Mine was just a tidy plastic reroute item. If your bike is suffering a wire loom fault from this recall, then I can not see why its not all replaced after all that's what a warranty is for!
Mines affected. Every Triumph I’ve owned has had a safety recall. Mind you I just had one done recently for my VStrom
When not deployed they're back about an inch or so from their baseplate with a plastic cover over them, any further back and they'd get in the way of your steering wheel. Once deployed they go a bit further back but only for a short while. You may hear a bang when it happens. I'll get me coat....
Read this https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....ll-triumph-bonneville-street-motorcycles/amp/ Then go give your dealer a kick up the arse and tell him to fix it!
Yes my bike got done Saturday. pretty quick job. And Srihari. I would like to think that if the damage was done because you were not told about the recall then the loom would be changed under warranty. Regards Joe.
Cupoftea, Crispey & Joe. Thanks for the options. I did push the dealer and tried to explain him the wiring harness should be a part of the recall. Back & forth discussions with Triumph Aftersales, and they finally agreed. They have ordered a new wiring harness from UK. Should be here in a month or two. Meanwhile, the technician opened the wiring harness and fixed the broken wires for a very small fee. The turn indicators & horn work fine now. Will keep you posted once the harness is changed.
SRIHARI. Sure glad they have seen sense. Not your fault they boo booed on your bike safety. Ride Safe & Enjoy Joe.
A word to the wise regarding the new "fix" tidy recall. I'd say it's worse than before. It's not a real fix as the cable is still tightly seated against my wiring harness on a '18 T120. I went ahead and removed the cable from the tidy which got it off the main wiring harness. You'd think they'd have a better fix.
