Watched the docu/drama on Netflix, if they turned up to the games and showed that passion when their team was really struggling they might be in a different position. The crowd and fans are known as the 12th man, but they stayed away when their team needed them most.

Just commenting on what I viewed on the Sunderland till I die documentary. The team really needed the support and the stadium was virtually empty. They look very passionate in your YouTube clip, more of that when the team is down, picks them up.

Talking of Sunderland, anyone remember Charles Buchan's* Football Monthly? I used to get the Christmas Annual handed down to me the following year from a cousin.

*'The Black Cats' second highest ever goal scorer.

That's weird, cuz whilst in the Premiership Sunderland were 6th or 7th best supported with home crowds averaging 41-42,000. I believe that after relegation they still attracted crowds around 30,000.

One of the issues though is the relatively low price that tickets can command in the North East, and that in order to build a future base of support Sunderland give lots of free and cheap tickets to youngsters. I think I read once that Arsenal's match-day income from three matches was equivalent to Sunderland's whole season match-day income.

Ha, I get you dilli. I’m a life long Leeds united season ticket holder, we’ve had a lot of crap too. Had a season ticket for 50years+
The Netflix show will have got you some worldwide fans. Enjoyed it.

Hi Dilli. Do you remember a long ginger haired winger in the mid 1970s called Roy Greenwood playing for the Black Cats. A former Hull City player, as a young lad at Boothferry Park I thought he’d hit the big time when he was transferred to your gang. Not sure he rode a Triumph, however!

Boothferry Park. The only football league ground in the UK with its own dedicated railway station, I do believe.

You were right at the time but I guess Brighton and probably others will argue differently now. Other claims to fame - 6 floodlights and a team name you can’t colour in! Who do you / others shout for?
