I'm thinking about changing the clip-on bars on my TT600 to some simple straight (sit up and beg) bars. As there are no 'trees' I'll need to change the top yoke to one from a different model, but I can't rememeber which model fits....

Can anyone assist? Better still has anyone done this who can give any advice?

    Many thanks yawl.

Hi Des, I've just looked at a diagram of the TT600 on world of triumph and the top yoke looks like it could be machined to accept a pair of aftermarket risers.
It would be cheaper though if you could find a bolt on alternative if there is something available.

Can you post a pic of your top yoke?

    Hi Nigel,
Many thanks for your message, and phot enclosed herewith as requested. Just running my fingers underneath the yoke I can't find any markings, but as it's flat topped, it might be ok to simply drill holes for trees I guess. What do you think?

    Best wishes.

That looks do-able Des. I'd take it to a jobbing machine shop and ask them to undertake the hole boring. They will machine it to a micron! I did this with a ZX9 top yoke and husquvarna risers for a 70's Z1000.
I would suggest trawling ebay for a set of standard bolt on risers first, there a loads on there and then get the yoke bored to the risers and the correct hole centre width. It might sound silly but make sure they know the riser holes are set equidistant over the centre line. I had to explain that on my yoke!!!
To get an idea for what handle bars you ideally want, get four 22mm copper pipe end feed elbows ( I can send you the elbows as they are not cheap ) some 22mm copper pipe ( again, I can send) and play around with different heights, widths and pull back. Once you have the desired feel, you can either solder them or easier still, pinch them hard with a pair of pipe grips. You can then take the pattern to a tube manipulator or someone who stocks a good range of bars.

    Cheers

Thank you Nigel, luckily my best chum is a plumber, but thank you for your very kind offer anyway. I did sneek a look at fleabay this afternoon, and found more risers on offer than you could shake a stick at - so many possibilities to choose from. You idea for trial bars is a really good one to work from, and a good place to start.

I did read somewhere of a straight swap-over of top yoke from another Triumph model, but I'm bug*ered if I can remember which model it came from. My Bike's going in to the main Dealer on Tuesday, so I'll ask (some hope) the question anyway.

There a very good firm nearbly who are Motorcycle engineers of 'the old school' (e.g. not simply "fitters"), and I could get them to drill the top yoke correctly for me.

If you're ever Newport Pagnell way, gis a ring and pop in for a Coffee - I work from home so about most times.

    Many thanks and best wishes.d
