    Hi All

Getting back in to biking after a break of a couple of years and at the moment have a Speed Triple 1050 in my sites. Think I might have found the one although it is fairly high mileage, 36,000 miles on a 60 plate. It's got a full service history at a local dealer and everything looks cosher but I have to be honest the mileage is making me a little nervous.

Welcome aboard Carl, hope you enjoy the forum, as Dozers Dad said, check the major services have been carried out, I'm guessing the price reflects the high mileage, only thing I'd be concerned about would be selling it on again if/when the time comes, don't wish to pee on your fireworks though.

Now that is interesting, it's had the 12K and 24K service but the 36K is now due. It's a private sale but if I can get it for the right price it might make sense even if I have to get the major service done, at least I know it's done then.

Welcome aboard Carl. Would you consider a car with 36k on the clock high mileage? If the bike has been looked after, has a full service history, despite the 36k, and the price is right then it could very well be a bargain.

    Welcome, Carl.
Don't be too put off by the mileage. A regularly serviced bike should be no problem. I have had my '95 Trident 900 from new and it now has well over 53,000 miles on the clock and goes better than ever - or so it seems. It gets serviced when the mileage says so but as that is infrequent nowadays it get an oil and filter change every year or two, dependant on useage, plus anything else I think ought to be checked/adjusted/replaced that I am capable of doing myself.
I'm sure that there are other bikes owned by the inmates herein which also have accumulated many miles with no real problems.

I think I'll give my local dealer a call tomorrow, they've done all the servicing on the bike so far, to get a price for the 36K service and then see what I'm comfortable paying based on that.

On that note does anyone have any thoughts on a fair price. It's on a 60 plate but it's a 2011 face lift model.

It wouldn't be the one on eBay down in Tiverton would it, at 3k or best offer I'd say that was a pretty fair price, as you say, do your homework in regards to calling for a price on the service and base your offer on that, good luck mate.

Any good independent service shops/dealers down your way? Someone on here may know. Who do your mates use? May save you a fair few beer tokens which is never a bad thing:), even if you don't drink beer.

Yep it's the one on ebay, there's a good service shop a few miles away I've used a couple of times. I'll give them and the local dealers a ring in the morning for prices

Welcome to the Family. 36000 is nothing for a modern Triumph engine if it has been serviced and cared for. But you need to see the bike. Look for tell-tale signs of bad ownership racing and like wise. And I really think I would be making an offer as you can get them at that price elsewhere.
    Regards
    Joe.

    Hi All

First off thanks everyone for all your advice, it's been very much appreciated! I shopped around a few of the local bike garages and got a quote for the big service for a fixed price of £599 at my local dealership. Looking at the price of other bikes on ebay I used that to define what I wanted to spend overall and put in my bid. Guess what, I WON!!!!!!!!

Hopefully picking up the bike, assuming it is as described, on Friday so it'll be a fun weekend on two wheels for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As soon as I have it I'll post up some pictures!

Looking forward to getting involved in the forum and hopefully return the favor of the advice I got here

    Happy days

    Carl

Way hey, you're a happy bunny then Carl, a double feel good in an eBay win and the new bike feeling, happy days indeed, I hope she is spot on for you mate, I have a 15 plate of the same model and I'll just say that I'd be very surprised if you don't love it, ride safe, especially while you get accustomed to each other.

Good morning and welcome in. I wouldn't be put off by the mileage which isn't that high to me. I agree with the other members that you should assure yourself that the proper servicing has been done. Good luck and remember to always ride safe and enjoy!
