Just fitted S22 to mine yesterday and did 100 miles or so today. Quick turn in and very confidence inspiring, like them better than the M7RRs I replaced. Paul
Whilst at Whiteways yesterday i got talking to a Speed owner. He highly rated the Avon 3D Ultra sports. Personally, i like the Roadtec 001, i trust the 100% in the dry and wet. Had them on both of my bikes. 6500 miles from the rear. The front i only change every other rear. I've scrubbed in the Chicken strips with my Tiger, and that's a long way to lean
+1 for the Roadtec 01's, put them on my speed triple two years ago and just changed the rear after 7300 miles!
I I really don’t believe there’s any bad tyres these days. Most problems people find are because of the chosen tyre operating outside of its heat range. If you find one that suits you stick with it
I had Metzeler Racetec RR's on until last week... it was very much an all or nothing tyre - not great on winter roads and commuting! But the Rosso III's that are now on board are thus far phenomenal
Well, I'm going to exchange the Pirelli Supercorsa SP when they are done on my new RS for Rosso III's, too. Should be as good as the Metzeler Roadtec M7 RR's - a lot be seen on power naked bikes around my area. No difference on the rear wheel so far in dry conditions, as tests say here in Germany. On the front tire till 50-60 mph more flickable, then more stable at higher speeds. Pirelli designed it that way as they say because of the more sporty attitude according to its brand positioning - the Metzeler's M7 vice versa. My decision for the Rosso III's vs. M7 is because of the looks - love this lightning design, haha...
Metzeler Roadtec M7 RR came 1st in 2017 by MCR and Roadtec 001 came first last year. I don't think a road bike needs pure sport tyres as you will never be able to heat them up enough except on a track. Personally, i don't like Pirelli bike tyres. The ones I've had were fine till the wore done 50% and then the grip was terrible and would fall into a turn like it was falling. I put this down to the front tyre having a very prominent center band. Where other makes have a more rounded profile. I have had other makes over the last 30 odd year but over the years i lost faith in Pirellis. Brillant at first but worn down half way i found they lost the grip quite a lot. |This is only my finding and views which my son can back up as he has found the same using the tyres.
Went for a drive this weekend, about 500 km, of which 99% backroads. Must say I’m very happy with my choice! Good feedback, massive grip (dry, don’t know about wet), and steady up to 200+. I’m convinced.
Had 3 sets of supercorsas and they are brilliant but wear too quick (3000 miles front and back) so went for Rossi III’s for higher mileage and maybe because they have more tread they might be better in the wet although the SC’s never let go in the rain. So far all’s good. Definitely getting higher mileage and no downside on grip including a track day.
Read somewhere t'other day, that Dunlop are makin TT100's in bigger sizes now, for the growing vintage Jap market.
I’ve run my Multistrada 950 on Roadtec 01’s for the past two years. I’ve just had a new pair put on, the rear doing 10000 miles and the front a whopping 17000 miles ( it was getting rather bald at this point!) My local fitter is getting a pair of them to put on my Speed Triple R. I can honestly say that they are the best all-year, all-weather tyre I’ve ridden on, offering fantastic grip on wet, slippy roads. Plus, they wear really well.
I had a pair of Avon Storm 3DX fitted to my 2015 Speed triple and am very pleased with them, they give good grip in all weather condition.
Metzeler Roadtec 01’s give good grip wet and dry and last pretty well too, I got 7000 miles out of the rear taking me to Spain and Belgium, so a mixture of motorway and twisties.
Sorry mate, that I can't tell you, they always feel very stable with brisk road riding but haven't had her on a track with them.
Plus one for the Avons. Fitted a pair to my Speed Triple a couple of weeks ago, and although I haven't been able to push em yet, they feel good in the wet.
Fitted S21 and they have given fantastic grip and confidence in the dry and damp, although not used them in full wet conditions. Run in quickly too. Right to the edge of the tyre in first 30 miles where as other brands have taken at least 100 miles run in.
Ok so realized I need to get new tires for my new bike. I've always gone for the Pilot Power and later Pilot Power 3, but that's about the only experience I have to be honest. Doing around 5-10 trackdays a year and a few laps on go-kart tracks once in a while. But most mileage is done on the road. Saw some mentioning the S22 here, you guys still happy with them? Have also been looking at the Dunlop Sportmax, heard they are good in rain. Bike is 2016 Speed Triple S. Have any of you used the Pilot Power and moved on to another brand and model that you found better?
Imho you cannot better the Pilot Power for all round performance. Warm up, dry grip, wet grip, longevity, value for money. Sure there are other tyres that perform better in specific areas at the expense of others. But as a package, the Michelin is a sound bet.
